I don't hate Hololive, though I don't particularly like them either (anymore). Disregarding the points about their fanbase, it's just that the company's too fucking big, and Youtube's algorithm is a positive feedback loop, pushing them to grow ever bigger despite their content being quite stagnant and run-of-the-mill. This creates a very lop-sided, brand-loyal industry where a lot of worthy talent is mechanically denied visibility and deserved success just because they're under the "wrong" branding.

Ideally I'd want Hololive's popularity to take a hit, Nijisanji to some extent too (especially in Japan). I don't want anyone gone for good, I'd just like the bigger corpos to be cut down so the numerous smaller acts would stand a better chance at finding their footing, and the scene could breathe a little. It's really the weirdest thing to me how normal livestreaming is dominated by indies, but the default for vtubing became corpo worship in just a couple short years. I say all this as someone who has watched both holos and nijis a good deal.

It's just that Hololive is huge and dominates the (western) industry to a stifling degree, but this dominance isn't reflected in the quality and variety of their talent and content. If the Youtube algorithm prioritized discovery instead of trends, you could potentially achieve a much more vibrant vtuber scene with a better spread of opportunity and fandom. While this would come at the expense of the big corpos' current popularity, a fan of one might not even notice a change in their output.
