Youtube changed how it counts CCV in live streams... here are the criteria according to youtube

1) no spam messages in chat (accounts that spam messages in chat are removed from the stats, so idiots spamming things like headpat emotes no longer count)
2) multiple tabs in your web browser - this one is vague but according to youtube if you have "many" tabs open at once it will discount your live view stat
3) multiple monitors - screen focus; this one is also vague but apparently youtube won't count views coming from non-primary screens (windows determines which is your main screen), this actually puts a stronger focus on mobile devices being counted more regularly in the CCV numbers
4) bot like youtube viewing behavior; this one is vague as well, but youtube considers watching multiple unconnected (unrecommended) videos in a row as being bot behavior and won't count your activity either as a VOD or CCV
5) watching a video without actively clicking on it. meaning you get to a live stream without clicking on the live stream == not being counted as a CCV.
6) bot like viewing - also vague but it appears if youtube thinks your AFK/not engaged, it won't count you for VOD numbers. not sure how it determines this but it could be anything from NOT typing something in chat, to basically not interacting with your pc for a time; youtube uses both as examples for why it might consider a viewer a bot.

It's also rumored adblocks fuck with viewer counting but youtube makes no mention of them in either their CCV or VOD metrics.

I suspect the holos are getting nuked by the chat behavior of their viewers... either them not typing at all, or a large number of them spamming shit in chat. Furthermore they're probably getting their VOD numbers killed by people watching them on a 2nd screen, or with "too many" web browser tabs open.

My completely unfounded speculation is that youtube has made it so that one or a few of the Hololive channels have it so that if you interact with them, it makes your account be considered a "bot". Streamers that are holo adjacent or have a large overlap of holo viewership also are culled severely. The culling gets progressively worse (as over more time more general Hololive fans happen to interact with this account). This suggests the view count we see, is only people viewing while logged out. All logged in accounts eventually interact with the said hololive account that makes them become a bot & no longer have their views counted.
