I've wanted to be a youtuber. There's a specific niche content I think I could fill so I wouldn't be trying to compete with anyone huge or anything. I thought about it but I don't have a desk, a proper chair, or a stand microphone, so I cant even start to think about it. Not only that but if I wanted to do the Vtuber thing I would need to commission an avatar, And then learn how to use whatever streaming software. After that I'm not an idiot so I would build a separate computer so there's no chance of me accidentally opening something I shouldn't (I know I could multiboot a pc but this way there will be no issue) and then start a new steam account and discord account so I can buy games to play without it tracing to me.

Luckily I have nothing on the internet that can be traced to me because I'm not a content creator in any way, so I wouldn't need to scrub anything.

I've thought about it a lot. I used to stream erratically a bit, having a model that can react without having to show my actual face would be nice. But every time I think about going and getting a commission done I keep thinking of how I'll have to have nearly everything redone. The steam account, the email account, then having to keep it all hidden for the sake of the internet personality I created. It feels like an old job I had where I had to play up an identity, it's fun in a certain way and I'm used to it a bit, but also it's super stressful to have to keep up the act through anything and everything

I have though about it once or twice but decided against it; I am autistic with not much of a personality, and there's not much I can bring to the table that others aren't already doing. I have, but if you're a guy it's not really worth it. You gotta work 10 times as hard to make 10% of the money a girl could make.
Moreover I'd gravitate towards playing retro stuff instead of the latest twitch fotm, so the audience would be even smaller yet.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I'd only be in it for the money alone, but if you can't at least live off it then it'll forever just be a side gig on top of a full time job and that's just eh.

OBS is a free recording software you can use. if you can't livestream, don't stress, you can simply do local recordings and upload them to youtube as time allows. the biggest thing is to figure out what type of entertainer you've got inside you.

do things that make you happy and that you enjoy. don't be silent, just talk about things. make up shit if you have to like "now, chat, i know you're asking why i'm doing this, but let me show you.." stuff like that.

don't worry about a vtuber avatar, you can be a no face and still do well. pngtuber if you have some pic that you wanna use, but rigging and live2D comes later.

I have been thinking about it honestly. Not because I want to be super famous or anything. Just have a small group of people that I can talk to about videogames. I have been entertaining the idea for the past month.

Don't worry about it. Most independent Western vtubers just mindlessly copy Hololive's model without thinking about why they do it (for instance insisting on having a low-effort debut stream where they just dub over a powerpoint about themselves, doing karaoke streams even if they can't sing, and going out of their way to set up collabs and form cliques). Vtubing is essentially just streaming, so it's better to work on that and not get tangled up in the meta of being a vtuber.
Even among Hololive talents, backstory and character setting stops mattering as soon as their debut stream ends, and if they are forcing a personality it tends to slowly revert to their normal self over time. Like how Haachama started off trying to be a tsundere, but that facade eventually fell away to reveal the batshit insane zoomer that she is.
Just be yourself. Sincerity is inherently attractive and impossible to fake.

being someone different and acting is sort of the point of being a vtuber? not like you have to, you can just get an avatar and be yourself. but you're already yourself, so it seems a little redundant, you could just face cam.

>> No.209530

You don't need a backstory. Your avatar can just be an avatar if you want.
But if you do decide to make it an actual character, don't choose traits that you can't keep up for hours every day. Like don't make a character that's smug and confident if you're naturally quiet and reserved. It'll come across as obviously fake and you'll burn yourself out trying to play a character that's completely different from your normal self. Just exaggerate things that are already part of your actual personality.

You aren't doing the same things that the big name vtubers are doing, so you wouldn't really have to worry about the current western vtuber community. Your potential audience doesn't really overlap at all.

As for the amount of people that would be interested in your content, Twitch does have a Programming tag that sees plenty of use and there are people who pretty much only stream that. You wouldn't even be the first vtuber to do programming streams, though maybe the first to do it exclusively. Your audience almost definitely still won't be very big and you definitely won't be making a living off of it, but if you're fine with just hanging out with a bunch of neckbeards who will understand your frustration when some library you need to use requires some bullshit chain of dependencies that could've been prevented if the person who wrote it wasn't an incompetent shithead, then it might be worth trying out as a hobby if you're interested.

Not as generic bishonen #36, no. Get a voice changer and a cute loli avatar (but don't be a tranny). Become a cool robot. Do something.

>Is there a market for males?
Not for "using streaming to go through my backlog". We need opera chuubas, we need machine learning specialist chuubas. We need latin speaking philosopher chuubas. We need chuubas who play specific games no one is playing (RTS only chuubas have found an audience, for example, and we need a dwarf that plays Dwarf Fortress).
We don't even have a criptocoin chuuuba even when every single fucker in /hlgg/ have been talking about doing that for the last six months.
Find what makes you special and do that. If there is nothing, become a viewer, we also need those. You can't throw a rock in this board without hitting a vtuber.

>I don't have a model yet. Maybe I should start by making a twitter account and talk about politics to see if I can get a following first.

FUCK YOU. Even if you succeed at that, it goes like this:

>2000+ Twitter followers
>100~ show up for your debut
>10 or less average regular viewers for subsequent streams

Twitter followers do not reflect on viewer count. Only content matters. Start with a png if you have to. Just move. Stream to no one so you can practice. Save the "debut" until you take the time to realize if you hate doing this or not. Vtubing is the DMing of hobbies: you are there so other people can have fun. It is not for everyone. Most people end up seeing streaming as a chore.
Just do it. These threads are full of indies that started with 0 followers. The vtweeters quit after a month. Slowly declining destroys your motivation harder than starting from scratch. It's all down to luck, but you were all out of it from the start by being born with a dick, so you will need to work hard instead.

>They gonna dox me and be mean
Yes they will. Don't get into this unless you have a strong stomach. The weak will be culled. Only the strongest will remain. Every girl you see shilled here? No no no no wait wait don't do that. We badly need a BRATTY SMUG DOMINANT SHOTA and everyone who applied sounds like a throat cancer patient. It's like the number one thing on demand right now and it has been for a month or so.

Say you are a boy and that's it, no one will have any reason to doubt you. You will be both breaking the glass ceiling and filling a market niche that desperately needs to be filled.

>> No.227713

they cater to the widest audience possible, brain dead teens who love overly exaggerated reactions and drama. that field itself is even oversaturated.

it's dumb to just point to the top streamers and say "they're all men!" it's more important to ask how much new blood (of any gender) manage to grab any upward mobility and break into it. the top streamers being men doesn't mean you get any buffs for also being a man.

realize that the top tier streamers haven't changed much in the last five years and ask yourself why.

>> No.227777

How do you get yourself a starter audience? Actually streaming is the most important thing but is there any way of getting an audience past that? If we're recommending people go for specific niches then how does one go about getting recognised in that niche? Is it just a case of build it and they will come?

Lurk around certain communities and see what is on demand. Every so often you will see somebody literally begging for a particular fetish to be filled or for a game to be played.

Then you drop by and say: "Well, I can give it a try if you don't mind", bam, you earned one follower for life, who will shamelessly shill you to his friends and everyone he knows.
Vtubing is less about you and more about giving your audience what they want.
