I was actually subbed to fubuki 2 months prior to me actually getting into hololive, I never watched her and I never knew what she did... But I was subbed to her for some reason.
The short clips she did were recommended to me but I don't remember if that was the reason I subbed to her or not.
But anyways, this was my first actual exposure https://youtu.be/xcu0xrRX460 and ever since then I have caught at least 80-85% of her streams live while the rest are watched VODs, and to this day she's the only one I'm subbed to or actively watch.

I remember seeing Ai-chan's first video uploaded relatively early on, watched her videos on occasion along with the rare Luna, Akari, and loli fox ojii-san until early 2018. Pretty much fell out of tumors aside from the occasional clip linked in IRC, mid 2020 looked through the /wsg/ thread every once in a while but was insistent I wouldn't care for the streaming format that had become far more common. Watched the HoloEN debuts cause it was being discussed in IRC, still didn't care much until something in October 2020 had me decide to watch more. Was probably finding comfy Okayu streams along with a lack of much anime I wanted to watch during that draught period.

People were memeing a character for reminding them of Coco. I still didn't care.
Then somebody posts a clip of FBK pulling for said character and being hilarious on the subreddit months later. I start to get intrested.

By the time I started watching clips of JP, the ENs were only s few weeks away from debuting.

Started out watching Kizuna Ai and Nekomiya Hinata. However, they don't stream nonstop the way vtubers do these days. Didn't start watching regularly until I fell into the Hololive hole, watching clips of them playing games like Dark Souls and Project Winter.

These days I hardly even watch Hololive anymore. Mainly watch Nijisanji and indies/smaller vtuber groups.

Highlight vids of Korone's short-lived GT2 livestream. Those vids were how I fell into the chuuba rabbit hole. However nowadays I occasionally watch clips with ENG subs and listen to some chuubas sing from time to time. But why not watch a full stream or binge watch a shitload of clips you may ask? To put it simply, there are some games that chuubas stream that I find are much more fun to play yourself rather than watching someone else do it. That and the irony of it all is that racing games and my sudden interest in NASCAR history have become my escape from the chuuba rabbit hole.

Saw some funny Korone clips like the one everyone saw of her saying NIIGGGAAAAA while playing gta and some Coco clips but didn't really get into them for awhile because I only watch streams in the background while I'm playing games and don't speak nip and this was before western vtubers blew up. Then I checked out Melody because coomer brain and thought it was funny that she pissed off all the ethots but couldn't really get off to her streams because solo chaturbate shit doesn't do it for me. Watched Gura for awhile because kept getting recommended shit and she's cute. Now I mostly just watch pink cat because she's funny and I don't care about the "hypocrite" bullshit. Will occasionally watch Veibea because she occasionally plays niche games I'm into that no one else streams.
