Code quality is important because shitty spaghetti code is hard to understand, and you need to understand the code in order to be able to change it. If you're never going to change the code again, then it doesn't matter how hard the code is to understand because you're never going to look at it again.

Aside from patches and DLC, videogames see a lot less constant updating and patching than most other code, so the code can just be shit and it works out. This is also why any website for a one-time event is a horrendously awful creaking piece of shit, or why disposable applications are utter garbage inside.

Good clean code is important to me as a developer, but just because I care about it doesn't mean my boss or my userbase does. Do you care if the guy who takes your trash out has to smell rotting shit all day?
