I'd take the hyperbole down a few levels and would rather say that NjiEN has "first mover advantage", and depending on how long it takes for Cover to react and present their counter-offer, it only grows, but there's still enough space in the market to move in.

What NijiEN has shown that there's actually enough of an audience/demand for western male chubas that serving them can be a profitable venture. If that was what was holding Cover back all this time (expecting StarsJP numbers and thus not worth the effort), they now have their proof of concept.

The only reason for this is because they want a total monopoly on the vtubing world. They cannot allow another company to have any niche they don't feel, because that would give people an excuse to leave the hololive plantation. Hololive needs to be a "one stop shop", nobody can even think about competitors, or even know that competitors exist. So they will debut a male wave, and then advertise that shit everywhere to make you watch it. That way they will stop draining people to Nijisanji
