It's almost 2022, Holostars debuted over 2 years ago already. Meanwhile over 2 years after Soras debut it would already be 2020. And even 2019 Hololive was already outperforming the current day Holostars by a lot.
Some people like to claim that Cover doesn't help them at all but the Holostars do benefit massively from being under Cover and being semi-related to Hololive, so they can get access to things they would never be able to do or afford if it wasn't for the girls.

But I still don't agree with OP that they're a money drain or anything. Vtubers aren't that expensive to maintain and it's not like they're building new studios or offices just for them.

I looked up the concert hall, and it can have up to about 2000 guests. Assuming that they only let half in due to the coof, that's about 6,000,000 yen in ticket sales alone (not counting the online tickets which there were probably more of). It costs about 850,000 yen to rent out the place for an entire day on a holiday, so i'm pretty sure they at least broke even with this event.
