CALLIOPE MORI - THE MASTER OF MINDGAMES

It’s known that Mori doesn’t particularly care for opsec, and that’s not new. In fact, it was even obvious from the start. She followed obscure Japanese netrap accounts on Twitter (e.g. BOOGEY VOXX, every member of Tamaonsen, and the World Wide Words event), ostensibly to promote them, but she definitely knew it would clue people in to her old identity. This worked pretty well; someone guessed it within the day of HoloEN’s reveal, the instant she described herself as an American bilingual rapper, and her follows confirmed it within the days after.

Cue the days before debut. You have to understand that at that point the then pre-split /hlg/ was absolutely dreading HoloEN. What else would you expect from a bunch of 4chan autists on the Japanese Culture board who hated western women and western anything? They expected the end of Hololive, that it would fill up with whores who didn’t care about the company and would drag it down with “degeneracy” (please andastd eigo only) and political sperging (it was election year after all). They were unaware of what was to come.

Mori had at least 3 months to prepare for her new Hololive gig (this is easy to prove). The Aloe incident also happened during that period, which makes it even more questionable why, as late as September near the debut, she hadn’t pruned her Twitter account for yabs. Sure, she might have been busy, but surely in those 3 months she had time for it. She also removed her real name and old EPs from her site during that time, so I suspect that this was her first mindgame.

That’s because /hlg/ would find her tweets. They saw her unfiltered self, and they would explode. This was the original “Morigeddon”. People who were expecting a stinky dump had found solid gold. The denial was absolutely insane; I never expected a 4chan thread to be so full of actual cancel culture as they tried to comprehend the reality that HoloEN was going to have /ourgirl/. The damage was done, and the mindgame had borne fruit.

The rest of the world would kneel at HoloEN’s debut, and especially with the flagship halo product that was RIP that to this day still remains the most popular Hololive original. It was still the schizo otaku board, of course, so there would become a split between those who were becoming more and more irrational with their hate of EN and the rest of the community. This would manifest as the /hlg/-/hlgg/ split, and while /hlg/ remains happy on /jp/, /hlgg/ would come to dominate the culture of /vt/ and, indirectly, western v-tuber culture itself.

Valid criticism is valid, but the next time you embark on the timeloop about the Nigger of Nippon’s yab of the day, remember the Master of Mindgames and the woman who made the world kneel.
