Yeah status effects suck balls, especially in the older games.
More modern pokemon games are way easier which makes them more chill to play but they also lack challenge and strategy.
Also the nostalgia factor is huuuge for pokemon.

I started with red and the 1st time I saw a shiny pokémon besides red gyarados was in gen 3
not to mention the shiny animation playing out when you send out your pokémon gets annoying really fucking quickly
