I hate them. And not just kind of dislike, I just hate them. Face it – it's just cringe. And no, don't say this is "cope" or whatever, you know it deep down. At first, VTubers seemed genuine and they were enjoyable to watch. Now, EN chuubas are taking the spotlight. Ask a Reddit normie if they know what a VTuber is, they're going to say Gura. Gura did NOT deserve to be the first to 1 Million. Sora deserved it for being a pioneer. Or Korone or Coco or Okayu. Gura did not work hard, she got lucky. And unfortunately, people only know about EN VTubers. And guess what? Now all the EN "VTubers" are just doing it for the money. They probably laugh about us behind our backs in their free time, unappreciative of the fans and only care about the money.

there are some good JP-like companies out there like VOMS, and the prism,kawaii,tsunder,cyber and indies and the like... but vshojo is the inevitable future for english vtubing because it fits with the english streaming culture. good luck having a heartfelt thank you after achieving some sort of milestone in the same place some guy lazily pushes his tenth sponsored game/toy/supplement; try acting cute or singing without legions of twitterfags, normals or kids remarking pedo, cringe or boring.

English Vtubers have more subs because more people speak english across the world, so they are more accessible on the most general scale. But even Gura might as well be a 2view compared to Japanese Holos when looking at actual public recognition in their own countries. You can find Hololive merchandise plastered across any of the 1 million Lawson stores in Japan, they are at theme parks, video games, instant curry commercials, news segments and more. Even a lot of Japanese grannies are generally be able to recognize them as vtubers at the minimum. But if you show Gura to the average burger or bong, most would just give you a weird stare and call her a japanimation girl or a meme they saw once. The best mainstream exposure she and any english vtuber has gotten so far is an incredibly hard-to-see 1-second cameo in the background of a taco bell commercial that ran for maybe a month.

Even as promotional I doubt there's Hololive merch in 1 fucking million different stores in Japan. There's not that many fans for that to be profitable (something like 10M) I'm betting it's limited to some areas of the country.
Some of the others were temporal things the same way they do promotions with tens of other franchises or vtubers over a year.
They're popular but not mainstream popular (yet). Take in account that around 1/3 of their fanbase is overseas, look at their stream numbers and compare them with 126M Japanese people.
