If you don't want require the whole idol thing, vtubers outside of hololive tend to have a better variety of games they play and potentially better collabs. There's just higher variety in general due to less restrictions.

Also smaller streamers are able to interact with their chat better.

The reason why people say that is because they have traveled out of Hololive and found one or more vtubers that resonated more with them than any of the Holocast. If there is a Holo girl that grooves with you that's fine, but there is a large amount of vtubers to experiment with, and that's only accounting for corpos and not the plethora of indies as well.
