I don't see what's so difficult to keep about her "character". She just needs to keep the 吾輩 shit, and even that slipping up from time to time can lead to cute moments, so it's not that strict. Everything else will come naturally from chat interaction. She's not doing a solo performance to a silent audience, the character setting is an invitation for banter, as you can already see from a single day with chat already going for "how was school today?" jokes in response to her "I'm not a child" bit. It's not some complex, multi-layered lore she needs to keep track of, and constant acting, she just needs to react to chat's teasing.
It's not any more of a character than Marine always correcting people casually calling her Marine with "it's CAPTAIN Marine". The playful nature of the default state of Yamada's character will only make it all the more impactful whenever she's having a real, serious moment with her audience, similar to Pekora.
Nobody expects or wants her to pretend to be a specifically-written character at all, they just want her to refer to the setting whenever reacting to tsukkomi.
