Well I just think that basing it on the Disney Little Mermaid would have been equally bad. The only description of the mermaid's appearance in Andersen's Little Mermaid is that she has blue eyes and white skin. Which if you look closely at Sumi you'll notice that her eyes are blue. Whereas Finana's are not. So they got it as faithful as they possibly could.

Another problem with Sana is her accent is so thick you actually can't make out what she's saying half the time. There are numerous occasions where she says something in a collab and there's a pause as the other people with her have to take a moment to try and parse whatever the fuck she just said. Sara doesn't have this problem, she's still very Australian but you can hear her quite clearly.
