On this case, 2k20 was develop by another studio with little experience. Yukes (the main developer of te 2K and some old WWE games, also EDF series) wanted to do another wrestling game by itself and 2K didn't want any of that shit so they cut them.
I don't know about others sports games, but WWE is really fucking hard to work with, because they need to watch and aprove every single thing on the game, including the camera cuts at the wrestler entrance. I have read how fucking hard was to add HHH entrance because WWE (or rather Haitch himself) wanted to make it as realistic as possible and that takes times and resources that are limited. Overall, at least on the WWE games, they uses a lot of clones or the same characters on different eras because is more easy than making one new character, so that's why they sell the NXT guys as DLC or the really niche wrestlers only hardcore fans know about it.

Is going to be the same as always, but now with less people to choose thanks to Big Releases Khan (Not to be confused with Tony Khan, the owner of AEW, is just anther exec with the Khan surname but also the president of WWE). People think Khan is preparing everything to sell WWE to Disney, ABC or Viacom.
