I've been a Nijinigger for some time now and I'm starting to realize that maybe Holobronies are right. I liked Nijisanji because they felt more chummy and like friends, but that's precisely the problem. They will never be your friends and any expectation of that is unhealthy. With Hololive there is kinda of a buffer between the chuubas and the audience since they are, a least somewhat, more of an idol company. That, and their popularity keeps them from being able to respond to viewers on a consistent basis. I think the realization that I will be nothing more than a string of text to them is making me want to pivot back to being a holobrony to better see chuubas as entertainers instead of parasocial friends.

Because 90% of the biggest youtubers for years were dudes. See: Pewdiepie, markiplier, yogscast, tobuscus, seananners, just to name the bigger ones.
The biggest difference is that they are women in a nerdspace that present themselves as nerds. The ideas of “no girls on the internet”/girls are just trying to exploit nerd culture for e-clout/attention, those sorts of things generally held true for lots of early youtube gaming was male dominated save for the occasional one here and there.
Fastforward to EN debut and suddenly female basement dwellers are in the open, like some exotic cryptid being shown at a zoo all of a sudden. This is just my schizo idea though.

TLDR; youtube gaming has been a male dominated industry for a long time, females in the same role via vtubing are a huge change of pace for most people

Funny, because I'm the complete opposite. I started off watching Hololive, and watched a shit ton of them, but over time I just started enjoying it less and less, because I hate the idea of idols, and sure they're not actual idols, but having the whole persona and acting rigid in some circumstances. My favorite streamer/online personality ever was Etika, because I liked the really loose/friendly aspect of everything he did,and Niji is better at emulating that than Holo. Also, I would do that with 2views, but I don't know how to groom them.

I actually feel the same but to 2view chuubas, I first watched tons of Hololive before I fell out of it to watch some 2view chuubas. My experience on watching 2view chuubas for the first time is fun. Seeing them mention your name everytime you tune in to their streams, them remembering what you have shared on their chats, hanging out with them in their respective dickswords , and many much more. But then once you have fallen deep down to their own groups you would realize that nothing of what they have said on-stream is genuine. They would shit and laugh at their viewers specially to the "most dedicated fans" for giving money, supporting, and acting like a gosling to them even if they only act like that on their own respective threads and doesn't even break containment. Literally all of it is a lie, yes even your 2 view oshi who doesn't say anything aside from "muh I love chat so much, muh thank you for supporting and watching me again and again" to make it seem genuine but in reality they all feel disgusted towards you. And no this not just a single 2 view chuuba, I've seen it plenty of times to make me cynical enough to not believe any of it anymore. At least in Hololive you're nothing more than a single speck of sand in a beach.

I started out only watching HoloEN but now I almost exclusively watch 2view indies and small corpo vtubers. They aren't inferior in quality in any way and imo on many occasions are outright more enjoyable to watch, and they actually read your chat messages. Also just knowing that they aren't big and that they aren't making six figures makes me want to root for them. I really want to see hardworking underdogs succeed, and it was part of the reason why Mori was my oshi for so long.

Stuff like the 8(?) hours stanley parable stream Elira did that turned into a Lazulight hangout is great. This was before HoloEN started encouraging this culture among their talents. Even now when they do, it's not comparable with NijiEN.
