>popular YouTubers are building their own sites
Why doesn't Cover make their own site to host videos in case YouTube decides to pull another Holocaust? At the least they could have it as an off-site archive, at the most they could use it to have streams on both sites simultaneously so they don't have to give YT a cut. Maybe they could even replace YT someday.

same reason they don't provide hardware. its too much work

So that is the true power of A-Chan.

I get a laptop at work, for work. We also got cheap ass keyboards/mouse to go with it. So pretty much everyone uses their own.

High end hardware that a streamer is going to use is probably in the 5 digit ranges. Any cheap stuff they supply would be a waste of money.

They wouldn't even give ID some fuckin tech back when they started and were streaming on microwaves via 3g

Also that's way too much server costs unless you expect it to come partially out of the talents pocket

They already use multiple sites like YouTube, BiliBili, Niconico, etc. The main benefit of YouTube is access to viewers already using the platform.

Any youtuber or youtuber group that made their own site actually succeed or do better on their own site? Maybe only roosterteeth?

Find a billionaire investor.

because any offshoot sites have zero reach and zero discoverability and are going to be exclusively for enfranchised users
there's no possible way for them to build a youtube competitor, so having their own site is going to be more like a fancy way to deliver patreon rewards

The most profitable aspect of Cover's business strategy is almost certainly corporate partnerships, such as the PriCon campaign, which are all about how many viewers you have. Any move away from YouTube, which is the 2nd most visited website in the world, would be disastrous for viewership.

Having your own platform doesn't negate copyright laws. The permission ark will still be ongoing, except it can go to court.

you can look the futile efforts how LTT tries to archive their footage to their office server.
even with massive sponsorships they are just bleeding money and wasting space.

now try hosting livestreams globally while chinks are pinging at the door...

They lack some zeros on their accounts to afford the infrastructure.

Didn't Sora make a stream about building websites? Maybe they are and this is low key hinting at it?
