Nepotism isn't the same as getting in because of your professional connections. If I introduce a guy to my company because I believe he can do a good job based on what I know about his skills, it's not nepotism. If I introduce a guy to my company just because he is my friend and I have no idea how good he is, it's nepotism. At least get it straight

nepotism would be: you hire someone because theyre your cousin/brother/son in law/daughter's boyfriend etc even though theyre a retard who cant do anything and are useless
getting hired because of good networking would be: you made friends or a connection with a guy and displayed some level of skill or competency and the guy who your friends with has a perception that you can do the job
Obviously you would rather hire someone you think you can trust than some rando who has paperwork saying he theoretically could do the job

>> No.12200275

Both are nepotism. If you know someone professionally or personally and they acquire a position through your recommendation or direct influence, that is nepotism. Their level of competence is irrelevant.

Nope. That's what I said. Nepotism is, quoting it, "the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs". In other words, it's nepotism when the person getting the job, got it because they are "relatives or friends" of those with influences. However, when someone get the job because of their skills, it isn't. Whether this someone might be friends or relatives of those with influence doesn't matter as long as that identity didn't play any significant part in the decision over their skills

Is it really nepotism? There are things like proper equipment, speaking ability, and so on that make an important baseline for indies. But pass that line of normalcy, pass that line of mediocrity, what really matters is getting people to actually FIND you. So you network and you become friends with the people you do, or it happens the opposite and you become friends on some gay discord and then collab for visibility. If Holo, Niji, whatever seeks talent only from relatively popular indies it's inevitable that they all know each other. It's also inevitable that they share a lot of the same personality attributes, sense of humor, talents and whatever.
tl;dr The indie scene is going to provide an endless amount of women that can sing or draw, have little interest in games, are mildly funny, and they all know each other.
