Not the ayyy, but let me ask some questions anyway!

1a (streamer) - Do you time your streams around your friend/oshi's streams, so they don't clash, or not?
1b(viewer) - Do you organize your spare time so you can watch your oshi/top favourites, or just catch them if you're free

2 - If your oshi asked you to mod for them, what would you say, and why?

3a (streamer) - how do you find your mods? Do you look for powermods, or fresh users?
3b (viewer) - how active do you like mods to be in chat? Should they be 'just one of the viewers' until needed, or should they have a mod account?

In return, you may ask me a question. I probably won't answer, but feel free to ask.

1a) Not really. I would go insane trying to keep track of it all.

2. I think I would try, but I also feel like there's people with much more time and skill that could do it better than me.

4) I go with people who ask me to be mods and who I know relatively well. If someone goes out of their way to offer help, I'm not going to just throw that away.

Q: Would you ever commission smut of your oshi?

Answering my own questions, because fuck it, why not

1a - No, I have a set schedule, because it's when I have the time to stream.
2 - Yes, but I can't make most of her streams due to timezones
3a - I had one dude volunteer during a botraid, and one who volunteered for doing it in a sponsored stream, but that's all I have. Probably promote from within.

>>11659483
>Q: Would you ever commission smut of your oshi?
If she has a NSFW tag, and it wouldn't be the only piece of smut, then yes. If she had a range of smut with other chuubas, then I'd definitely commission some of me breaking her choker

1b. If it's a big stream, I will take some time out to relax and watch, otherwise I'll just watch it if I have the time or have it at least on in the background.

2. Maybe, I don't really know, depends on how active they'd expect me to be. For example, Bat/Yozo have a bunch of mods but a lot of them aren't always active. If I could just mod whenever I actually have time, then fine, otherwise no.

3. Mentioned above; if they're like Yozo's/Bat's case, then it's fine. They have plenty of "normal" viewers so that a new person doesn't feel overwhelmed by all the foam swords/diamonds in the chat. But if it's a smaller vtuber, then I'd be nicer if they have a Mod account but use their normal one for chatting.

I do for my oshi. Like my Sunday is set aside for her streams.

>2 - If your oshi asked you to mod for them, what would you say, and why?
I'd say yes, probably, since I want to be closer/help them out more. But I can't catch every stream so my utility would be kinda low.

>3b (viewer) - how active do you like mods to be in chat? Should they be 'just one of the viewers' until needed, or should they have a mod account?
I don't care as long as they're not cringe, which most unfortunately are. My oshi's mod is pretty cool, funny guy with good info. But the people who want to be mods usually aren't suited to it, honestly.

Here's a question: You a chuuba or viewer?

2 - Nah, I wanna sit back and enjoy the stream, not work
3a- I don't have mods, then again my streams usually get 10-ish viewers on average so it's not like I really need any

Q - How do you come up with questions like these?

>chuuba or viewer
I'm a chuuba. Started as a viewer, then one of my favourites got to talking about how she started streaming to get over social anxiety, and I figured that was a good idea, so I copied her.

Streaming ~4 months, viewing ~11 months.

>>11659875
I just think of things I'd like to learn, and that I think other viewers might like to know. When I started streaming, I'd often ask stupid questions here to try and get ideas on stuff. When I'm posting here, I try to add a load of extra info, in case anyone else wants to become a chuuba, so they don't have to also ask the stupid questions

no because I'm not even remotely qualified for that kinda thing and also more selfishly I'd rather just focus on the stream rather than tard wrangling her chat
If they're gonna be constantly throwing their weight around then I'd rather they shut the fuck up rather than look like someone trying to pretend to be "one of the viewers" when they're clearly just the internet equivalent of an assistant manager at a grocery store that demands respect from everyone under them. I miss not having done some of the streams I wanted to, like cooking for example. It's something I still want to do.

I also always regret mumbling or talking to quickly during my streams, still working on that.

I don't really dwell too much on the past though and I don't think it's productive. Regrets? I don't know, there's some things I've learned along the way, including not to care too much if people you thought were your friends suddenly stop communicating entirely. It's just how it is.

Not particularly, most of the indie chuubas I watch don't live remotely close to my timezone so it's not really a concern.

Probably not, I wouldn't want to feel like I'm working a second job instead of just enjoying my oshi's streams.

I watched a stream recently, and was prompted with the "send your subscription renewal message", so I did, because I want them to SAY MY NAME.

Checked subscriptions, and the next month's was due in three hours. I'd just not seen any of her streams in a month - either because of her insane hours, or because she was streaming something I had absolutely no interest in.

Don't get me wrong, she's fun, but I've played New Vegas to death, and she's not got it modded to the gills or doing a challenge run.

Yes! I specifically stream in the morning so I never ever have to worry about cancelling a stream or missing my oshi. I'll guerilla occasionally to raid into them, but never stream during their content.
>2 - If your oshi asked you to mod for them, what would you say, and why?
Honestly? I wouldn't. I'm too active in their chat and people get really intimidated with a sword being waved around constantly. I'd rather blend in with the other viewers.
>how do you find your mods? Do you look for powermods, or fresh users?
I pick silent but active users, basically lurkers that chat maybe once a stream but that I know are always there.

My morning streams are usually PaperBag and BirdMaws. Both chill to listen to and occasionally chat with while I'm making coffee and starting the workday.

I just started reading Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami, I haven't gotten far enough to tell how good it's going to be but I really like the rest of Murakami's work, so it'll probably be a good read

Morning Alium, since your mornings are my afternoons, Thinkerbella is great for me, since I can listen to her in the background. Other than that I usually watch whoever is on (mostly Caleb).

When it comes to books, I tend to read stuff from pop-science (mangas too, but it's not really reading and more just looking at pictures) and if you don't already, I would really recommend you do so! They are usually written in a way that's not too dry but still differ in writing style from things like novels . Not only that, learning about something scientific might give you inspiration for your own works.

Th-thanks, y-you too, anon...!
I was given the proper read order of Disk world and then completely ignored it and read what I had. Now I need to get the other novels.
Something funny that I have ground over the year is how expensive buying books can be... And how sci-fi novels are typically in a series... I wonder how often people bought books back then. When I would go to the train station as a kid, I would pick up a book from the rack if my parents let me. I think back now at how many novels I must have bought and how much it cost. And I never gave it a second thought.
Anyway, I went on that tangent to try to psych myself up to getting the rest. There is a local used bookstore I will contact later about it.

So one thing I've done for books in the past is Amazon, and then the "see all formats and editions". There's normally a used version of most books for less than £1. Amazon then charges £2.50 shipping, but it means I've got a shelf load of books that each only cost £2.51. The ones I didn't like I donated to local libraries and schools.

Good luck in your hunt!

I recommend starting with A Wild Sheep's Chase. Though probably not the best thing Murakami's ever written, it's not that long and represents the creatively odd universes he sets his stories in pretty well, giving you a good taste for how he writes. He's certainly not for everyone, and if you like super in-depth lore expositions for the universe the author creates than you'll probably be mad at how little regard he has for the worlds he builds, using them as a backdrop for character stories rather than being the focus of the narrative. I absolutely adore 1Q84 and it's slow buildup of the characters, keeping you not even sure what the genre of the novel is for hundreds of pages, but I know a lot of people consider it a slog, so it's not a great introduction to his work. Hopefully it's something you can enjoy!

Aha, I have only read two Diskworld novels and some of Pratchett's short stories in the past. I think I actually found his short fiction before finding his actual novels. But maybe because I prefer short fiction... I have commitment issues. The series is huge, so I have to psych myself up to buy the rest. I could just not buy it but I feel bad not paying for books.

But I really like Terry Pratchett as a person. In an the things I have read about him, he seems really interesting. I wish I could go to a sci-fi convention and meet science fiction writers in person and pick their brain. I read about those things happening in the past and writers all meeting up and inspiring each other and I think it is the closest to pure jealousy I feel.

As for fantasy novels, do not get me started on most fantasy novels. I sort of prefer sci-fi because it is so hard to find a good fantasy novel. Maybe I am biased, but it feels so much more difficult.

If the Discworld series seem daunting, my suggestion is to get "Going Postal" and then "Making Money". They're two connected novels published rather late about a completely new main character. The good thing with Discworld is that Pratchett often reintroduces his characters in every book so you don't need to worry too much about being lost.

Discworld is objectively worse if you read it chronologically because the first two books especially are hot garbage.

Thank you! Sci-fi tends to have a lot of lore dumping and exposition so maybe it will be nice to simply experience characters again. I used to read a lot of modernist novels that were probably closer to what you described and I did enjoy them. I like feeling lost and dazed as I read, like I was simply dropped into this world as an observer.

>>11668760
Thank you! Okay, going to pick up those! Yeah, the series is very daunting, honestly. I tend to avoid reading series that feel too long because it feels like I have to devote my life to them. Pratchett would, absolutely, have preferred your pirate his books and enjoy them. He loved the world, and loved seeing the comments people had about them. He was an amazing man, and the world is brighter for his existence, and darker for his passing.

I regularly think about the time he spoke on a fan sending him a letter. She had stage 4 cancer, and wrote to say "I used to fear death, but now I just hope he is like you wrote"

>What is pop-science?
Pop-science is similar to pop-fiction, it's things from the scientific field broken down and written in a way that it's understandable for most people. One popular pop-sci book would be something like "A brief history of time" by Stephen Hawking. I myself just finished "The Improbability Principle", a book about chance and why people can win the lottery even though the probability for it is so low, and recently started "Bad Arguments: 100 of the Most Important Fallacies in Western Philosophy". If you're interested in a specific scientific field, you could maybe search for pop-sci books in that field, although it might also kill your passion for a subject if you go at it with a wrong mindset.

That's an interesting one.

A lot of the chuubas I watch are almost out of momentum, and I needed something to fill the endless void of silence during the waking hours. And I'd just watch whoever was most entertaining. But I only liked them for certain things, and they move away from them.

So doing my own streams gives me something to work on, learn art skills, and improve through. But at the same point, it's more effort than I'd want to put in to my other hobbies.

Best ayylium! Writer's block is such a pain, it definitely clogs up your headspace until it's resolved. Sometimes you just got to power through! I hope it ends for you soon though! My favorite book series so far has definitely got to be The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. The prose in there is so beautiful, it had a big influence on how I structured my writing. More Meshi fans! I love this manga to bits! I used to scour /tg/ for the readalong threads, the hilarity of the memes produced there was epic. Ryoko's artstyle and worldbuilding definitely inspires me. Her works have such a great sense of life in all the characters and keen details in her settings. Not too mention her expressions and humor. Still, Dungeon Meshi is definitely my favorite of her mangas. I love this cat like you wouldn't believe.

It's very dry and probably cliche, but I liked Michael Crichton and Ray Bradbury's stuff back when I was a more active reader. I'm very behind on my reading reps so I'll need to figure out some more authors to read from.

The problem is that there is that unless you are completely solo, simply interacting with a vtuber risks getting them pulled into the thread. There are plenty of vtubers we have interacted with outside of this "circle" that end up with the same group of chatters there and are eventually absorbed into the threads. The only way we can avoid that is by not publicly socializing with other chuubas which messes with our networking.

It feels a bit weird being in the position honestly. Because you want them to grow and get to know you, but the next thing you know, they are told about the thread and start posting. I now it is hard to realize now, but look at the number of "here" vtubers now vs. 6 months ago. You think they came out of nowhere? No, a good number of them are vtubers we made friends with that ended up getting strongly associated with here and then containment breaking revealed the thread to them. Which, to your eyes, then looks like we never reach outside of this place at all.

There definitely is an element of the definition of /here/ is expanding at a much higher speed than it appears to be at first blush. >we might be one circle, but the actual scope of that circle has become exponentially bigger than it was even just half a year ago.

I think there's actual sociological phenomena occuring as a result of the general state of the Chuubasphere. As one of the other guys insinuated, >we have one of the most permeable barriers-to-entry around, and a very, VERY wide spread of people that are nice to interact with in a ludicrous amount of variety. If you like any genre of game, there's someone /here/ that touches it. If you like any form of handicraft, someone /here/ can talk to you about it. Reading, editing, even shitposting itself, is covered and thus allows others to assimilate /here/ with the sole qualification of that being that you talk to someone ELSE /here/.

That said, yeah, please encourage making friends outside of /here/, not to drag more in, but to spread more out. Don't go out with the purposes of "conversion" of others to /here/-compatibility, God no, but don't be afraid to be a guide to the wonderful world of /here/ either.

Pretty much. I went for months with a mic that would peak when I got loud, and no one said a thing in my streams. I only found out because someone posted about it in the threads, which then lead me to look into Reaper plugins and other nice audio stuff. I'm not going to say every interaction here is quite like that, but when the stars align the honest, actionable feedback is nice.

This is also true. If they aren't already here, vtubers eventually find their way here through analytics. This isn't a bad or detrimental thing, just part of the process. I would still encourage finding, socializing, befriending vtubers and attracting viewers from outside this site though. Raids are helpful for this. Twitter interactions too. If you are not a burger then finding vtubers from your country can help in finding or starting a circle. The South African vtubers are interacting with each other, and while they're still somewhat small, they're slowly individually reaching out to others, which is interesting to observe. I'm seeing social circles around ripskip and vnuuked, and there's plenty Australians all interacting with each other. Nationality can be a place to start, but also consider hobbies and themes.

As a chuuba myself, I've been trying to do this myself, not necessarily going to abandon /here/ but I've been checking out some other streamers, raiding into them. I rarely get raided, and when I DO get a raid, it's from other /here/s, which as much as I appreciate it, I feel like it's not as impactful since there may not be as many "new" viewers I'm being exposed to

>> No.11677014

Definitely agree. I tried hard shilling in every discord, I tried reddit, twitter, tumblr; none of them made much impact on my CCV.
The ONLY difference was when I was running a retro game, and I posted in that games subreddit. I went from CCV 6 to CCV 12 for that one stream, but that was it. And the subreddit was so dead that if I'd posted again the next week, I'd have been the two posts in a row, which always looks stupid.

Most spaces you can advertise yourself in are already inundated with chuubas. You need to break out past that. So if you want to put an advert in a magazine, or a sky banner, or the superbowl half-time show; you need to go external to streamers.

Otherwise, you're in competition with the chuubas who already exist in those spaces.

I want to pull a Boris Johnson, and plaster my face and name on the side of busses across London. Or on BBC radio or something else stupid and outrageous.

Well, the issue is that we cannot really abandon anything. Our foundation is here. I could never post again and my foundation would still have started here.
It is different for vtubers who come here for feedback or fresh viewers. We have a unique situation of not really having anywhere to grow out to unless we get very lucky with YouTube or social media. Even then, we started here. We owe the anons here for everything we have.

>>11676701
>I would still encourage finding, socializing, befriending vtubers and attracting viewers from outside this site though.
We do, but we cannot control if they get pulled in unless we do not interact with them at all. So it becomes this weird thing where you second guess your interactions with other vtubers, where you want to be their friend but you are worried you might bring attention to them that they may not want or be okay with, or if they may judge you after finding out you are affiliated with 4chan in any way. It is a hard feeling to describe.

>>11676816
Exactly. So even if we want to reach outside of this circle, it expands to the point where we end up back in it in some way.

A lot of indies I have spoken to are disillusioned with the big two and how they treat talent/the content restrictions surrounding rights, though Vshojo is a very appealing option as they are very large but still treat their talent with respect. The way foreword for male vtubers is to just be an entertaining streamer. Model yourself after the big male streamers on the platform like Jerma and Charlie, stop comparing yourself to female vtubers. Frankly the ceiling for male vtubers is a lot higher than female vtubers, its just everyone is always trying to hook some cringe gimmick that filters normie stream viewers.

Yeah, I was under the impression that the nepotism aspect of VShojo was separate from the application process. Like, Snuffy could say publicly "I want to be in VShojo" and Mel would let her in without needing to apply. Applications are for unknowns.

Personally I watch females because I think they're cute. I thought about it, and the only real similarity in all the males (Vtubers and non-Vtubers) I watch is that they're all funny and have interesting personalities. That's it, really. The bar for males is a lot higher, but at the same time the difference is pretty black and white. Either you've "got it" or you don't, you can't really teach personality this late in most people's lives.

At first glance sure, but no one just loses half or more of their viewership overnight when they were averaging this number for months. These are all unscheduled streams on a platform they stream on once a week at best and the most recent ones have been unannounced or test streams for the GPU after looking at Twitter. Their Youtube average is 480 and Youtube is known to be off by at least 30-40%. Schedule Twitch streams would net them 1k easily.

which doesn't matter because like >>11681648 said, whatever lurkers are around here have already picked their sides. if they haven't been watching you, they probably won't start watching you. /here/chuubas must leave /wvt/ and get outside audiences to grow. the current fotm is trying to bait antroyst to their streams for those oil baron gift subs, but that's not gonna happen anymore.

If you don't mind the audience it's still worth posting your link here. You just can't rely on it like you used to.
