This thread actually proves how interesting a case hololive's success is. They just had one viral event after another. Fubuki's short vids (Scatman mostly), Miko Boat and GTA, Korone Doom, and Asacoco/Coco being EOP friendly. It really makes sense how it just got so big so fast.

There was a video I stumbled upon that was my introduction to vtubers, but for the life of me I can't remember what/who it was. I'm pretty sure they were playing some kind of cooking simulator and I distinctly remember them being impressively bilingual and switching between languages constantly and with ease. Anyway that video is the only reason I clicked on all the other stuff when it showed up in my recommended feed.

Auditions for EN 1 opened in late April 2020. Prepwork would've started several months earlier. At the time auditions opened, Coco and Korone were thoroughly middle of the pack. Meanwhile, Fubuki, Aqua and Sora were the kings with basically no English appeal whatsoever, other than Fubuki memeing it up in October '19.

Korone's Doom Playthrough didn't occur until July 2020, her English only Mario streams even later.

Sorry Anon, but going after the English market was Cover's idea, Korone literally didn't matter for it, and Coco was likely a hire because Cover was already looking at the English market, rather than Coco convincing Cover to do so.
