For newfriends and fa/tg/uys: this is a Chronicles of Darkness (CofD) homebrew being played by the fabulous ladies of Hololive English, running under the Hunter: the Vigil module. As most of the players are new to the world of tabletop RPGs, this campaign is being played as more of learning experience, with fun and entertainment the primary goals.

THE CAST:

>Mori Calliope
as THE STORYTELLER.
Everyone's beloved, buxom, pink-haired, adorably awkward rappin' reaper. A solid journeyman in playing tabletop, she is the acting GM and organizer of this campaign.
>Takanashi Kiara
as TIARA
An explosively extroverted phoenix and savvy owner of the moderately popular fast food franchise, Kiara Fried Phoenix (KFP). Her experience in TTRPGs is limited to a small amount of DnD played as a child. Her character is Tiara, a nobly born foreigner with a talent for handguns and communicating with birbs, particularly her pet owl, Uhu.
>Ninomae Ina'nis
as YUUL
A soft-spoken, sweet-natured priestess of the Deep Ones, also a talented artist whose character renditions has fueled the flood of Huntermyth fanart. A newbie in the realm of TTRPGs. Her character is Yuul B. Alwright, a sleep-deprived college grad student with a talent for academics, crafts, and vehicular homicide.
>Amelia Watson
as WATOTO
An animal-loving time traveler and detective with a rough-and-tumble approach to life. Yet another newcomer to the realm of TTRPGs. Her character is Watoto, a paranoid, conspiratorial dealer of herbal concoctions and drugs who holds his own with rough street charisma and his fists.
>Gawr Gura
as SCOUT
An infectiously amiable shark, long-time resident of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. She is also new to TTRPGs, but don't let that fool you, her roleplay and improv performance so far has been nothing less than masterful. After going through multiple drafts and iterations, she has settled upon the party's final character: an illiterate, tough-as-nails country blacksmith named Scout, a melee and survival powerhouse.

Questions / comments / speculations
Link any pertinent Huntermyth-related questions here so they can be easily answered.

This idea picked up some interest in a previous thread (and elsewhere), but how would you anons like to see the party do an hour-long debrief stream? Just a short, laid back intermission session where the party returns to HQ and comes to grips with what the hell they just went through. Amidst spending their experience for the viewers to see (and maybe elaborating on the justification), Yuul could put her mental skills to work doing some research, Watoto could cultivate some helpful greenery, and Tiara and Scout could shop around for a replacement company car or something. i think a mini-session like this would work wonders; the girls could just shoot the shit, chat OOC more than usual, ask questions if needed, and complete their pre-mission prepwork without having to try and rush it all in another 3-4 hour stream. Also Calli wouldn't have to mega-prep for it, as it would be pretty laid back.

So far, who else in the Holo / vtuber community would be a good fit for Mythbreakers, should positions open up? So far the following have expressed interest in TTRPG, if not Huntermyth specifically:
>Reine
>Haachama
>Anya
>Risu (possibly)
>Fauna

This is a bad idea, but what would be a good SC to send to them seeing if they'd be open to giving us a try? Timing would have to be optimal as well. No point in asking if all of Myth are going to sign on for season 2

And here we are, gentlemen. The party's character sheets fully up to date and ready for reading. Changes between session 2 and 3 listed below:

>Yuul: 1 in athletics
>Tiara: Kiara ditched Loaded for Bear and Subduing Strikes, added Gunslinger as a Merit with 3 dots, Specialization changed to Revolvers, Spent 1 xp in Stealth
>Scout: 1 in athletics
>Watoto: 1 in athletics

Huntermyth shows us the importance of leg day.

Oh, forgot to add. Character inventory / damage sheets will be posted as soon as they are updated. I just need to rewatch the session and tally it all up. Will probably rework the card art in the meantime so they look less sterile.

Mori did the right choice by making it a luck game, I wouldn't trust Ina to handle an actual Kaiji-tier puzzle (or any puzzle, for that matter). And I don't blame the audience for thinking Ina was amazing, being left out of the spotlight by the other three constantly and having one moment to shine made it more impactful, both player and character perspective, even though yeah both did pretty much nothing.

>>10399836
Staying in character with Yuul is a balancing act for Ina. She's well-established as a cautious introvert and a bit of a weak-willed wimp (basically a less Oriental, less artistic self-insert), so making progress with her needs to be done in a manner that matches up with her personality and general behavior. Tiara is the de-facto party leader, and Scout is brave to the point of foolhardiness; their in-game personalities can easily soak up the spotlight when they spearhead the task at hand, easily leaving Yuul and Watoto in the dust.

I saw plenty of criticism for Yuul blundering into an undercover role as opposed to taking the initiative and doing it on her own. Her character, both stat-wise and in regards to personality, simply has more glaring limitations than the others, but it gives the party a very genuine sort of balance that I wouldn't trade for another Tiara or Scout any day. Yuul is observant, cautious, and a voice of reason when cool heads are needed (remember she was the only one against outright maiming / killing Sniff). Her shining moments are less prominent than the others, but she serves as a party anchor and details girl. Not a glorious role, but it has its place. I've played the healbot bitch before; it's without glory and thankless, but it keeps the gears going.

To close, I would like to see Yuul's strengths more played up to; a big reason why I'm in favor of the intermission session, where she could put her academic talents to use and drum up some helpful knowledge about the supernatural.

YES.
in fact, online RPG needs more of this: instead of a set schedule, you make the bets of the time you have.

Calli did a member stream about a month ago, brainstorming with the deadbraps. The manner in which this concept is labelled is irritating, like seeing a bum peeing in my mailbox levels of irritating. It's a simple concept on its own, but the manner in which it is acknowledged comes off excessively pretentious. It stinks of the rubbish flowing out of modern academia; pseudo-intellectual garbage with no substance. Tabletop is ultimately a place for fun; foisting modern academia-tier theorems and concepts upon it runs counter to the hobby as a whole. I'm in bed, so I'm not going to do a beat for beat breakdown of why they're being dumb. But half of it was getting upset at the label and acting like it's anything more than a silly name. It's not anything deep it's just a fun name for shitty GM illusionism. The name stuck because it's fun, not because it's some deep academic theory applied to the hobby. I'm not sure how your takeaway from any thing I said was that I think the cheap trick is someone complex. Especially when they just said that very thing by saying the problem is actually that it's more deep than that. It's just a bit of fun.

>> No.10460722

>>10459983
I explain this every time it comes up on /tg/ and social media, but for some reason it never sticks and people just keep repeating the same surface level arguments over and over again.

In short, quantum ogres is a tool that smart/experienced GMs use to allow for player agency and minimal prep time. But here's where many fail: They get stuck thinking it's repurposing the same fights/encounters/information in a way that means player choice never mattered. The secret is that you shouldn't actually compile stat blocks to the point of uniqueness. A good GM knows about what kind of threat level their group can handle, meaning they can abstract how many dice to roll for things like attacks and how much damage should happen. Then you apply flavor on top of this abstraction to fit whatever scenario the players find themselves in. In other words, you're not moving around the same ogre. You're moving around a challenge for the party that can be molded on the fly and isn't bound to a specific set of circumstances.

Rpugh example: I know my party of four can take roughly 15 damage each before death saving throws happen. I know they can dish out anywhere between 5 to 20 damage each per round not accounting for crits. I then want the combat encounter to last three to four rounds. That means the monster(s) need to deal roughly 10-20 damage a turn, and the sum of their HP should be around 80 to 100. That's the generic encounter done. Whether it's ogres, dragons, whatever, you have the hard work done. You just now need to present and fluff it based on how the party got there.

The same applies to routing information and macguffins. There you apply a certain set of conditions like "talk to X people" or "went here and saw/heard Y" and apply the same line of thinking as the above.

TLDR: It's the ultimate tool for the lazy GM that is capable of good improv

Nobody's misunderstanding what the term entails. In fact, it has nothing to do with DQD; she explained in a very concise and satisfactory manner. It's critical race theory of tabletop. Just some intelligent sounding term that means shit in the end.

That's not quantum ogres though. Like, at all. I now understand why you got so upset about it, because you think some people are trying to spice up basic GMing with a fun name, but what has actually happened is a specific example of shitty GMing has been given a fun name. I don't think you needed to be quite so stuck up about the whole thing either way though.

Quantum ogres are so GMs don't have to improv and it's a tool to ignore player agency. A quantum ogre is specifically when the GM ignores player choice to do the thing they wanted so they don't have to improve. So you have a fork in the road and regardless of which choice you make the GM is going to do the same thing, your choice didn't matter the GM doesn't have to improv. It's an invalidation of choice so the GM can do the thing they were gonna do.

Repurposing an old encounter as a new one down the line isn't a quantum ogre, that's just repurposing encounters. So the example you layed out is not what anyone means when they talk about quantum ogres, that's just standard GM stuff and isn't so good/bad/novel as to deserve it's own name. Generic encounters are just generic encounter. A generic encounter can certainly be used as a quantum ogre but for that to be the case the group would need to make a choice and the GM would need to throw the same thing at them regardless of that choice.

So that is what people are talking about, just GMs doing the thing they want regardless of player choice. It having a fun name is just because it's a fairly specific thing. There isn't anything wrong with a specific technique getting a specific name because it's easier than going "it's like that thing that GMs do where they, like, give you some choices but then they don't really matter and you do the same thing next anyway".

If you would like to see the origin of the phrase, see this blog post from a decade ago.

Did you read the article? He complains about reusing content at all (under the Pallet Shifting section). His proposed alternative is to hexmap, generate half a dozen alternatives and randomly generate any additional needed encounters, oh and do this every week.

That's not awful advice for old-school D&D, but it just doesn't work for anything else. The best option is to improvise at the same quality as your preplanned content, but that's not practical for most people.

I don't think Vic's acted too smitten with Yuul, as far as I remember. It's pretty obvious Calli gets a giggle from putting on the beta male doormat anime protag with him, but so far he's only done it with Tiara and Scooter. Maybe he's still sore about the whole attempted murder thing.

Absolutely not, especially considering Ina's upbringing. Although it would be a VERY poignant moment if Ina had Yuul casually pull out a vape wand or a cig while conversing. Sort of in the old Andy Griffith way where actors would just smoke on a whim while acting. Subtle stuff like that would go a long way in helping Ina establish more presence at the table.

Oh man. Reminds me of yet another terribly missed opportunity. Session 1, M mentioned thirty-five years ago, same number that Bertha has been the bouncer for the bar. I didn't think it was the most likely outcome, but it wasn't entirely unexpected. Wallflowers that aren't really interested in people can easily end up the most tantalizing because how hard they are to get - it makes them cute in a way, and turns getting with them into an achievement; irl and in a TTRPG.
I once played a professional dancer that was pretty charming and actually looking to mingle. But really, the most desired PC was the autistic sorceress who would rather touch a book than another person.

Maybe I'm not enough of an OSR-style player to see the fundamental issue, but think that blogpost is over-generalizing about how illusions of choice are bad.
An illusion that is not broken is equivalent to reality, it doesn't diminish the player's entertainment (which is all that TTRPGs want to achieve, in the end), and I disagree that the illusion can be broken in all cases - or that is more time-efficient to place two things beforehand rather than one thing at the table.
