It's just that once your brain falls into certain thought processes and emotional reactions you're mentally ill, and mentally unstable. It's like having a cold. Yes this. It's way easier to fall back and placate yourself with rituals, it takes effort and actually wanting to change to help yourself to not give into OCD, whether that's also supplemented by medicine (temporary) or therapy/a support group.

Spent many long years bouncing around from one medication to another and not helping myself by drinking incredibly heavily.

Never been inpatient for mental health, but have gone to day hospitals twice.

Psychs and therapists and drugs probably are overkill for the average person- just wasted time and unneeded pills. I have no friends left in real life and often wish I had died from alcohol poisoning or something similar.

I don't think it's something wrong with society or that I've been duped by big pharma. I've always been terrified of the world and just generally miserable. Not even on meds anymore anyways.
