Fauna kinda skipped over the part, but there's a book entry in the maze section that talks about how an artist can put their spirit and soul into an artistic creation. and how each of the paintings and artworks have part of Guertena's "soul" in it. but it's never explained why they go evil and attack humans who get trapped in the Fabricated World. that part is left for you to speculate
