/nasfaqg/ - NASFAQ General - Girly edition

Thread for the discussion of NASFAQ, a financial market simulator based on holding of coins that represent the members of hololive and some of their mamas.

This is a fake stock market game meant for FUN, not a real stock market (cryptofags will not be happy here either, no real money involved, NO you won't get better at stocks from this).

They're like Lehman Brothers in 2008. Have their fingers in a lot of pies. Collateralized their own debts to loan them out. Did it in USD because they didn't trust the government. Don't have any USD to cover the interest on their debts. Have been spiraling downwards for 8 months and now because they can't pay off the interest, all the other guys they owe money to are getting wiped out one by one too, leading to systemic failure in the Chinese derivative and real estate markets, which is leading to every other market and fund invested in China getting flacked as well- the USA, of course, is heavily invested in China.

And because their market is closed for the Mid-Autumn/Moon Festival, we won't know until wednesday how bad things will get.

Let's say you want to buy nene. Someone doesn't have nene but they sell you an IOU on nene. You come in to call them on the nene they owe you, so they call in the nene they theoretically purchased from another poster only to find another poster theoretically purchased it from another poster in a line of IOUs, then the final poster that's supposed to have Nene just doesn't have it, he lied about being good for it. So now there's a broken chain of people owed some Nene and no one can get it- leading to the breakdown of the market as there isn't enough Nene to cover.

Investing in individual stocks is pretty crazy when I think about it. There's a good saying in that markets are a popularity contest in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term ("true value" matters, but shitcoins are going to pump more short term from marketing). If you make a bad investment, did you just not wait enough for the price to be discovered? Or did you just evaluate it incorrectly? Will you ever find out?
No take backs and plays last years.
No wonder there's an "ETF bubble". Who is reading balance sheets when TSLA has a 300+ PE ratio. Who cares about dividends when the best ones you can get are 4.58% and SPY is rising 35%+ per year am I right? Maybe I'm missing something, "hopefully" this happening breaks the bubble and shows what was wrong.
I only got into crypto because I found about a project that solves the scalability problem well enough to be actually used for actual IRL applications, not only virtual defi gambling, but most importantly actually poised itself to that front getting a fortune 10 company to build something. Hopefully it solves a lot of real life inefficiencies and isn't only funny internet money.

sorry, but I wouldn't worry too much, "ETF bubble" seems to be speculation right now, since it started to be meta (kind of rightfully, it makes sense for retail). Late but listening!

This is a tricky one, implementation is not that hard but it's an ongoing discussion between the devs. On one hand, it's a very useful feature you all have been asking about for a long time, but on the other hand, we want to make the game more engaging so players access the site more, not less. Will you just leave it running and forget about the game?
If you want to discuss it feel free to argue your point. It might tip the scales in favor of the server-side faction.

Auctions should be the next update, as we were working on it before the haaton sheet incident. I believe the backend is already done.

Lottery needs to wait until liquidity gets under control.

Overall, how are you feeling about the game right now? If you have any questions or suggestions I'm here to listen.

There should be soemthing tthat focuses on daytrading (after writing this I realised that auctions may do the job). The game for rich players has been like this for a while:
>set up autotrader at adjustment

>Will you just leave it running and forget about the game?
Simple solution to complicated problem: Turn it off automatically every day at 12a Server Time when the market resets.
>How are you feeling about the game right now?
It feels like we're in a repair phase of the game. A few high-profile players quit and I wager that some people have gotten a bit sour to the attempts to fix the market despite all of the warnings. That can't be helped, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. The market doesn't feel stable but it also doesn't feel out of control, which is a place I'm fairly okay with being in. The broker and multicoin taxes were a brilliant way to force liquid out of the market and bait idiots/oshicoiners into loosening their purses. Tying in the superchats was also a masterstroke. Full marks from me for that one. It's always better to recycle and repurpose mechanics and ideas when you can if I recall, one of you is an engineer, so you're probably used to that sort of thinking.
There is a bit of contention on the way honk presented the "slightly less nerfed dividends" (read: The borderline total reversion of the dividends to previous levels).

Other minor things to maybe consider or look into:
>Nabi and Nana's superchat data in the /getSuperchats?all endpoint are swapped. They're not swapped in the site UI so I don't know what this means, but their current superchat totals are swapped when I scrape the data for Numbers Review. Also please confirm you're not getting fucking 160~something calls simultaneously from google servers at about 7:30p server time
>There is a bug multiple users have reported where their autotrader turns off. I looked into it when it happened to me and it seems to be the cooldown timer glitching out, as it will read "Trading in [line break]" while still being on, with the countdown having vanished entirely.
>Multicoin isn't terribly viable and that's fine in the short term. Don't let the users bully you into lowering the taxes, at least in the short term. Maybe later when the market deflates a bit more. For your notes, though, 10% on multisell hurts significantly worse than multibuy.

Since we touched this topic, would you be fine with moving adjustment back to 1 AM if a serverside auto-trader was implemented? I get it is inconvenient for a part of the player base but we feel the game is a bit too stale since there is so much time between the ytAPI update and the adjustments. I don't understand why the dev team is so hard set on keeping coin prices low.
Are correct in the sense that eventually you just have a huge pile of coins that you bought for cheap and you can sell them whenever they happen to adjust up. I do understand that divvies scale with coin price but that seems like an internal thing you could adjust. (I do think they're too high, maybe something around 8% makes more sense to me). I'm not advocating that coin prices rise by average % of divvies but it doesn't really make sense that the average coin price in week two of the game was 1470, right now its about 15k, so about 100x increase. If we take the game's starting money of $5000 and compare it to the 100th place player $72,000,000, you get an increase of about 14000x. Eventually decision making gets increasingly easy and you don't do anything other than buy all day or sell all day due to the low volatility. Before you would have to compare coins and decide whether one would be better than the other, (for adjustments and dividends) but now you just buy all the "good" coins and have a bunch stockpiled for adjustment.

the main selling point for server side is turning off our machines. You have to have VERY dedicated people to leave on 1000W gaming rigs overnight for weeks on end because their shitty thinkpad would swallow cycles like crazy on any browser and testing on an old phone only leads to the conclusion "yeah one more night of this and the screen fucking melts off".
I use my rig 12-20 hours daily, nasfaq is always open, but it would be nice to be able to close it overnight. Also it would feel much more like a real stockmarket if you could adjust the bot on the go - that being a necessity caused by a vicious cycle of too good dividends causing a higher amount of plays to make. Then again, we're all aware this would cause the site to lag a lot more - if our local autotrader instances already crash firefox sometimes, I couldn't imagine the server performing well with 200-300 traderbots running parallel.
I can only speak for myself here and with this week's numbers, but $52,973,688.52 divvies to burn with an average coin price of $12,643.81 means around 4200 coins to purchase if I'm not selling. Without multicoin, that's 29 positions I'd have to pick to run 24/7 throughout the week so multicoin is actually a blessing with high-risk high-reward style duality of both the tool players want right now as well as the idiot-tax style money sink nasfaq desperately needed. Who knows, it might even make this huge amount of divvies workable in the big pictures, the various reports will give us clarity on that, thankfully.
>we want to make the game more engaging so players access the site more, not less
which relates to that point quite nicely, time spent != engagement.
Opinions will differ greatly here and I only speak for myself. I like playing with numbers even if I am average to retarded at math and programming, so right now a good 5% of my nasfaq-time is actually spent on the site, 0-45% is the thread and the rest is my trusty sheet I use to tell myself my decisions are at least somewhat informed the cruel reality is good players would get to similar conclusions with gut feeling alone but oh well at least I have something to bring to the nasfaq show-and-tell which is the thread.
Right now the market is a one-way street from adjustments due to the nature of the bot and the abundance of money in the market, so you set the bot once and are done for the day most of the time. Your only hope is some graphs flipping, frankly the trading tax kinda killed that because a buy is much more of a commitment now, which means players should be more likely to hold a coin for longer and much less likely to even consider selling.
ROI on selling right now is really awful, and multicoin sales barely ever make sense at all. Selling 5 coins at once means you throw ~45% of the returns away only to sell it earlier, which implies the following things:
- you have over 720 of the coin
- the price rose to astronomical levels for that day only
- you expect a price drop of over 50% intra-day
- you also expect the coin to plummet to absolute shit the next adjustment
That's a bunch of stars aligning, and if you're 720 deep into a coin you are already prepared for playing the long game on that position anyways.
If we want more engagement, my first place to inspect would be multicoin sales numbers:
- more sales means more coins going out of the market, counteracting the current amassing meta
- it also tips the scales on post-adjustment coin trends being utterly stable
- it makes daytrading more viable and flexible since your position could be bigger than 144 without missing out much
It's a feeble mistress and I'm sure the top will abuse it however it rolls, how you want the meta to change is entirely up to the team.
I am also not in favour of taxing everyone equally on buys. I don't mind the 5% at all, it encourages burning money on superchats right now which is fine, but it also severely gimps smaller portfolios which HAVE to daytrade in order to make quicker progress. Balancing that will be tricky of course, I could see people superchatting just enough to drop down into the tax haven and then abusing the credits to make cheap buys to be better off in the long term.
Conclusively, there's more shit to consider right at adjustment (not only which coins but also how much per cycle to buy) and if you were to go even harder you might adjust those quantities over the day, so multicoin already made the game quite more engaging. The doomposting is a direct consequence of the massive nerfs to divvies rolled out and revoked in the span of 2 weeks, all because EN2 had a good day about a month ago now? This utterly crushed faith in the market and flipped old habits around. Some people couldn't take it and quit, although it wasn't as many as doomposting suggests. Having to cope with that kind of situations is, at least for me, part of a market scenario and fun in itself.
This has been another morning-effortpost nobody asked for.

>adjustment back to 1 AM
thinking of the burgers, I'd suggest at least also releasing limits for the trader with it. If there's only ~5 hours between hour 19 and adjustments you'd have people sleeping through both, wouldn't want to 5x into a coin which just spiked 10k up.
It would be kind of spaghetti to code but something like
IF Sui-chan dips to 10k
>buy 5x until a max of [Quantity]
IF Sui-chan passes 15k
>tune down to 3x
IF >20k
>tune down to 1x
or something along those lines.
Now, why make it that easy?
This would allow for way more buying patterns to be out on the market at once, heavily affecting the graph patterns so ironically, you would now be much more inclined to check the graph and adjust accordingly.
At least that'd be my feeling.

>eventually you just have a huge pile of coins that you bought for cheap and you can sell them whenever they happen to adjust up
which is precisely why coin prices need to go down from time to time so having all those coins becomes more "risky". Which is also not really true since even with heavy bags you can just wait for divvies to still get money out of them Ayamy-bros....
>I'm not advocating that coin prices rise by average % of divvies
They will anyways, just look at pekocoin right now. Highest expected returns on the market, known good long-term investment, so now she's on auto-buy everywhere.
Divvies being as high as they are and scaling with price is a recipe for desaster and the actual reason MPP doesn't matter.
Now what if divvies stayed really stable? Let's say a Coco-esque graduation week is the max with $5000 in dividends and we scale down from that. Now you actually have a business case for selling a coin again. The problem with that though is that individual performance will matter much less because Gura, Marine, Peko and Calli will dwarf the whole market into shitcoinmania, which in itself is not even a bad thing because heavy focus on coins means overlooked coins are plentyful and you can actually make a play again.
Right now you just get lost in the eternal crab trying to avoid playing metacoins and are forced to either buy the fucking bunnycunny or drop off.

Dividends last week were an oversight on our part. We're essentially changing the dividend formulas so that divs do not keep increasing from week to week. As honk explained before, divs were tied with mean coin price as a legacy of the time where PnD was the main strategy and players were worried about there being any reason to hold at all. Right now our formulas are completely performance-based, so the mean dividend payment should not increase week to week.

One would argue we should test before releasing the new formula. Which we did, but made a mistake along the way.
That being said, now the formula is correctly implemented and you should expect divs this week to be higher than the low of 2 weeks ago but not nearly as high as the payment of last week.

I personally multicoin some every adjustment right now because I trail behind in coin count compared to peers on the leaderboard. 5x buy/sell is literally idiot tax but if a coin like peko or calli just approaches 10k or even less 2x-4x might be justified, and with this weeks divvies 5x even. 5x buys will pay out in the long run anyways, the question is if you would've saved money from taking 5 times the time to buy the coin, the answer usually being yes.
Now 5x selling, that's useless as shit right now. Even 2x.

I’ll be honest, I don’t understand your graph. Shouldn’t it be:

>Buy1: 5%
>Buy2: 25%
>Buy3: 35%
>Buy4: 45%
>Buy5: 55%

>Sell1: 0%
>Sell2: 20%
>Sell3: 30%
>Sell4: 40%
>Sell5: 50%

So it should be say Buy4+Sell2 = 45+20 = 65% ? Not 75%

>> No.10132142

No, because the tax on Multibuy only cares about when you buy the coin, and the tax on Multisell only cares about when you sell the coin.
Let's say you buy Mori at 10k because of course you do. You're insane so you buy at 5x. It doesn't matter how many so we'll ignore the actual quantity. You spend 50k*1.5, or 75k, per 5-stack of Mori, including taxes. Already, you are at 15k per coin invested.
Then Mori does as she does and goes up. Let's say to 20k for simplicity's sake. Well that's a 5k profit, right? So you cash out. But you kinda need the money NOW because there's a hot piece of Indog artisian ass on sale and you don't feel like checking your numbers, so you multisell on 5x. Before taxes that's 100k. Easy money, right? Well, then the 50% tax swoops in. Now you only made 50k with taxes, or 10k per coin.
You may have noticed something important: You are losing money. You paid 15k per coin to get 10k per coin. On what should be a +100% profit margin.

Multibuy has a lesser impact on the spike you need to profit, but it still hurts your profits. You should multibuy only if it's a long-term position you intend to hold for a while (and I mean "if I need to I can profit on inflation scaling alone" levels of "a while"). Oshicoiners with liquid to spare and long-term speculators fall in here.

You should never multisell. Ever. It is a trap. The taxes on your profits are too steep to play around with. There are theoretically cases where multisell is viable, but they are cases that do not exist in practical gameplay.
For those wondering, multisell becomes viable if a coin dips heavily into the red for you (and you want to panic sell faster) or if you need liquid NOW and can afford to take the cut to what you get. Neither of these cases are going to be encountered by any reasonable player ever. If a coin goes deep into the red, either buy more or hold. If you need emergency liquid that you can't accumulate with 1x Sells, then you fucked up big time and were going to brick yourself anyway.
>But couldn't newbies run into it
Newbies can't afford the taxes on multisell of even a 2k coin at 5x. It is beyond cost-prohibitive unless they're camping liquid or superchatting early, both very dumb things to do which would brick their account anyway.

because your suggesting means the ONLY strategy in the game is to just buy lets say 2000 of every coin and then maintain those 2000 of every coin by selling some off when they rise and eventually rebuying them when they dip while slowly raising the number until you reach a point where its no longer sustainable or worth doing and then time to quit.
