go look up a guide on how to stream with OBS. replace webcam with a png. get started making content, but don't be an idiot and try to grind 40 hours of weak content. listen to other streamers who have done this before and gotten some amount of success.

slugma - do regular and consistent streaming reps and flex your talents. if you don't have a talent, you're just retarded. everyone has a talent but you're too blind to see it from your own pov. stream for a while and make your talents come out.

randon - rewatch your vods. find when you stopped talking and start figuring out ways to maintain audience engagement. if you have chat, ask yourself what you could have said better, how you would have delivered it better, any write that down for next stream. turn everything into something that's potentially clippable.

yozo - make sure your audio settings are absolutely spot on. voice should be in yellow on OBS and game should be in green. as a vtuber, your voice will carry everything. your emotions, your feelings, your personality. work on clearly speaking and letting your voice carry.

This is where everyone fucks up. If you're seeing something "new" a big vtuber is doing, odds are it's because they big people they watch have already done it. Phasmo, hot tub memes, certain game shows, those one-off trendy games. All done by big streamers first.

I'm actually surprised no vtubers tried to capitalize on Jump King. Tens of thousands of eyes were on that category for the first week or so.

all the people who stream and you perceive to be talented spent many hours developing themselves as well, they may or may not be "naturally gifted"

Talking is a skill! A very valued skill for streaming, at that. I recommend practicing speaking about the games you play. Try to make bits out of random things, go out of your way in gameplay to look for fun or silly things to talk about or do. You might need to force it at first.
It takes some practice for it to come naturally, but the more you do it, the better you'll get. It also generates more in-jokes for your community!

This is why you look at the low end streamers, see what the 5 viewers with technical skills are doing, and then copy (((them))) instead.

The other reason you should be watching small streamers is it's a LOT easier to see mistakes than explicit things that are good. If you can find something bad someone does, and just not do it, that boosts your 'skill floor', even if it doesn't actually improve the rest of your stream.

If you're not picky about design and just want something polished, you can always go for adoptable. I see a lot of good designs just kinda go for next to nothing. Anyone done any super-long streams, and got advice? I'm planning next celebration/subathon, and chat seems to really like it when I do marathon sessions... But the game that was suggested has an average time of 24 hours.
I'm still gonna do it, but it's gonna suck major balls. Any prep I should do?

>>9712318
Very few ever make it, anon. If you want to make it as a job, you're gonna have to suffer through the shitty bits too. It sucks, and I'm sorry, but if streaming makes you this stressed, maybe it's worth stepping back, taking a break, and coming back in a week or two? But fuck your family for not supporting you

>>9712554
Watched some bits. Sorry if this sounds mean.
1 - Consider moving to twitch, slightly better discoverability, and much better monetisation
2 -Personally, I found your BGM choice and volume bad (I went into Comfy Sunday Stream). I am actually autistic, and can get overstimmed, but generally I'm just slightly more irritated than completely out of standard It's very plinky music, with singular notes being struck, which is find as an intro, but for during the art, isn't great. Also, it's a bit louder than I'd expect for BGM in comparison to your voice.
3 - dead air. I did jump around the VOD, but from 1:12:55, you have ten seconds, then humming, but not to the BGM, and 20 seconds until "h'okay", another few seconds, then some (Polish?). 1:13:45 "bananana", 1:13:50 "h'okay, (more Polish?)".
This is a major problem. I watched the start, too, and you don't state clearly what the stream's doing - "Okay, today we're going to draw, I have the best idea" and then humming. Again, personally, I write a short intro script to start my stream off, and then launch in quite quickly. Here's another art streamer. Admittedly, she has a larger and more active chat, but watch as she talks through everything until someone types in chat, and that she just fills the air, even when she's doing the art?
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1145496658
This is also an idea for what I'd consider good BGM
4 - Your model defaults to sad eyebrows. I don't like that, but I like the rest of the model.

I tried taking month-long breaks even, but I feel like it doesn't really help... I feel like this will be an issue until I move out, honestly.

Thank you for advice!! Lemme try to anwser
1. I try to do some streams on yt, some on twitch, but for now I did a few only on yt, going to stream on twitch again too soon
2. I will try to tune it down, thank you! And it is true I might need to comission a new audio after all, I was kinda thinking about it but don't want to be rude to person that made it orz
3. I actually didn't know my OST was on the whole time when I was humming orz and yes, I did speak some Polish when I was talking to chat, I try to do multilinguar but I might be a little too all over the place? And I never noticed I had so much dead air, thank you!!
4. I think it's the issue that overally VSeeFace considers my face as sad most of the time, I tried fixing it but without much change, I will try again, thank you
These are actually valuable advices!

Good grief I haven't seen something this aggressively girly in years. Not a bad thing, I'm just shook that I haven't seen anything like this sooner.
The other anon has some good points, so based on your circumstances, I'm just going to cover some extra ideas you could go with moving forward:
>Make shorter videos, not streams
The number of +1 hour stream archives is very intimidating, and the short videos are not very substantial. Grabbing an audience as a small streamer needs short-form or "impressive" content that grabs people's attention immediately and tells them enough about you that will make them want to subscribe, and then eventually start catching your streams. This is also a good way to spend less time streaming if you need the time off while keeping content output. Some things you can do are highlight videos, clips, music, memes, etc. I don't know enough about the people of Poland, but maybe you can try to appeal to your countrymen too in some way? Can you make pierogi into a meme?
>Your current model needs some serious polishing
Right now, it's in fullbright mode and kinda painful to look at, and the ridiculous size of the wings probably get in the way having a good stream layout for gaming since you've scaled it down pretty small in your latest Genshin stream. I'd even suggest moving back to your first model in the meantime. If you're worried about your streaming success, it needs to be cleaned up or replaced outright because I can see people getting turned away from the level of jank. Some proper lighting would go a long way, just baked into the textures or something, I imagine it'd be cheaper to get someone to add baked lighting to it instead of remaking it from scratch.

Aggressively girly? @@ I will take that as a compliment I guess-
I will try with shorter videos, I was working on stuff like covers or something! It is true, I just realized I made only one meme video, wow I need to work on that

About wings, I used to have magnifying glass and I am thinking about going back to that. It was kinda less-saturated, too?

I think I might have gone too much with bright colors, I just really tried to get rid of all black to make it as happy-go-lucky and bubbly as possible haha

>>9712554
I agree with the other anons the audio balance is alll over the place. The game is the same sort of volume as your voice which super confused me when the characters in the genshin stream were talking.

I think doing multilingual streams is fine! But you should repeat what you said in Polish in English too. I spent quite a lot of time being confused ahaha.
Also yeah you have quite a lot of dead air in here. You need to practice just talking about what you’re doing constantly, even if it seems trite or boring.

I think you have potential!! You’ve got a nice voice and your streams are comfy but it just needs polishing up a little bit to be the best it can be!

For future reference, Lighting and shadows don't have to "darken" the model, it just needs to be a shade that contrasts with the rest of the colors gently and visually separates the elements, and you keep things looking cute with the right color choices in that way. You can see how gentle the hair looks in this art with a nice fade, it makes the hair look purple and not black, so its still all really bright.

Try slowing down the streaming and do it as a hobby. If you make it, you make it. Take your growth slow. You're not going to become irrelevant overnight as long as you plan and be consistent. You don't need to grow full time.

Don't stream 'as a job' until you're able to viably stream 'as a job'.

In the meantime, get a job that pays you. It can be part time. If the issue is money, then sometimes you just need to get out there and make money doing something you're less passionate about while you build on your goals in the background. Life, goals, and dreams aren't always doing the things that we consider fun.

Obviously, we're going to tell you 'don't give up' however, I think it's important to realize it doesn't need to be an 'all or nothing' attitude either. Your family certainly doesn't help, but having an 'all or nothing' is really harmful not just to your life, but harmful to your life as a streamer as well. There are going to be ups and downs. Streaming isn't a stable income. You'll need to learn to find new solutions and plan around things all throughout your career.

Balance your life.
It sounds like you need some therapy, and I mean this in earnest. Try to find some help websites that might be able to offer it at a cheap price, or free. It seems like you're bottling your issues inside and handling both streaming, and your family, in a harmful way. You need an outlet when going through complicated times.

this, don't backlog. backlog is boring.
you can replay some oldies and classics. a lot of vtubers have recently been playing or replaying Half Life 2 and Portal. classics are good. but just going through your steam library playing ancient games for the first time a decade after their release is boring and uninspired. viewers have no reason to sit and watch you play backlog games.

>> No.9731799

>>9730949
>sit and watch you play backlog game
The one thing I'd suggest, however, is to play classics.

Half Life and Portal are well-beloved by a wide range of people - they captured a chunk of a generation or two of fans, and they're still popular games to this day.

If you're a long-time fan, pushing for 100% completion, that might be interesting. Or if you're a 0% never played I did a one sitting Portal run through as a goal reward for chat, and they loved it, but I've never played it before could be fun if you chat likes backseating you. But you need to be adding something to the experience:
- New player - Makes chat feel superior
- Old player - "here's all the tips and tricks I have"
- Challenge run - "watch me suffer"
- Backlogger - "Yeah, just like last week, I'm playing a game I'm a third of the way through"

I'm planning a marathon session for my next follower goal, probably in a few weeks, where I'll be aiming to do a solid playthrough of another childhood classic. Online guides have a ~30 hour expectation to clear, but glitchless speedrun is 2 hours, so I'm expecting 24 hours is maybe reasonable. But I'm going to shill the absolute fuck out of it - reaching out to friends and collab partners from previous streams to ask them all to retweet it at different times, so I can bombard people's TL with it.

I think viewers like yourself are in the minority with this line of thinking, at least as far as EN goes. More often than not VTubing is just one of many different types of streaming sub-categories. Most people just see them as streamers with a virtual avatar.

> it feels weird that you'd reveal your irl self so easily but also hide your appearance behind a model

A lot of people I've befriended that were originally webcam streamers at some point say they just do it because they like it. Using a virtual avatar and having a persona or OC is genuinely a lot of fun.

It depends on what you want to use the avatar for. People may have anxiety and stick behind it forever, some might just think its neat, and then you have people who want to hop on a fad and get the absolute shittiest avatar to make an uneducated video about vtubing or to get in a girl's pants, so on and so forth. There's legitimate reasons to hide yourself forever depending on your stream goals, but it's okay to to reveal yourself.

One of the main things to note is that there's a larger audience for non-vtubers than there are vtubers, because vtubing is still this weeby niche where people will dismiss you just for being anime aligned or the absolutely bizarre misconception that anyone who hides their face is always a weirdo, something that's propagated by shitty celebrity culture and the corporate push to publicize as much of your life as humanly possible.

You don't sound like a fedora tipper to me, it just seems like you're settling into a bit of a strained low tone/that monotone you're talking about. I think the best thing you can work on is a relaxed, natural delivery which can be really hard to accomplish when you're just talking to a mic. The reason people go over the top is that it lets them break the ice, get over their initial nerves, and gradually coast back down to whatever feels natural in addressing the audience. Obviously not talking about people whose entire character is screaming all the time, but the most common example of this is the scripted open. Anyone who has a structured intro, from talk show hosts to your oshii, is using that method.

I'm currently in the process of making a shota png, picrel is in my top 5 inspirations. I think the answer is to toe the line at the upper end of the shotacon age bracket, subtext is virtually unassailable and a design can read as "young" but not "literal fucking child" with the right visual cues or the right personality animating it. Maybe this is all massive cope, but I feel like VTubing is tapped deep enough into anime culture that you're safe until you actually call a character a child in some canon way. >Dave, what did you think of the Collab?
>It was...you know...not really uhm good
>I'll say....HoloMyth and HoloCouncil Among Us Collab last night and boy, tale of two streamers. Kronii drew the most crowd reaction to calling out Imposter Mori, with some skilled deduction and the most fire we saw of her yet, as well as some jokes that got a few laughs from HoloMyth. But Mori just says 'Later' when ejected. You can tell Mori just doesn't give a single shit about this industry anymore, if she ever did to begin with.
>Yeah I mean, it was always kind of obvious since she uhhm didn't really have the kind of enthusiasm most other Holos have, but it was REALLY bad that Collab.
>You know ever since the Hachaama Collab, where she...just stone walled all of Hachaama's gimmicks and left her out to dry even more than Coco, I'm starting to think she realizes her whole attitude was done better by Kronii who by the way, unlike Mori actually...plays the games she claims to care about.
>I mean yeah..uhmm you know?
>DAVE SHE PLAYED ALL THREE ROUTES OF FATES, MOST PEOPLE DON'T EVEN PLAY ONE! Why? For the viewers Dave. When was the last time Mori did something for the viewers at her expense?
>Yeah I uhm, yeah have to agree
>Ever since she arrived Kronii has constantly proved more of a nerd than Mori, and surprise surprise, when your fanbase is mostly geek otaku, THEY GROW TO LIKE YOU MORE THAN THE ANTI-GEEK
>Well what about Kiara? She plays all kinds of games
>Yeah but she also clings to Mori like a lost puppy, if she dropped the lesbian gimmick that Mori herself has just given up on and clean up her narcissistic attitude she'd be A LOT better. Anyway, back to the Collab...Mori then ends her stream when Imposter Kronii gets everyone, and when she asked why no one listened to her, Kronii responded with 'Maybe put in more effort in your speeches than your failed rap career'. Kronii was then fined 500 dollars by Hololive management for being 'too aggressive and inconsiderate'

I see this said all the time so I’d like to dispute it just this once. There are incredible voice changers that get used regularly in the film/TV industry to great effect but they are expensive, highly technical and require a full understanding of DSP. And if you’re asking people here for advice you obviously aren’t going to be able to use them effectively so there’s no point sharing. You’ll just waste your time/money and sound terrible anyways.
If you work in audio post-prod and have the skills to utilize these tools then you already know what they are as well. It’s a weird situation with the technology still but maybe in another 5-10 years it will become accessible enough for non-professionals to use.
All the free ones sound utterly terrible btw. Someone like Tomari Mari is using 3-4 diff premium hardware effects simultaneously on top of really HQ voice acting. If you had any idea what perfect hell this kind of setup is to use and maintain in a live situation you might rethink as well. Honestly you need a 2nd computer dedicated solely to vocal processing (speaking from experience).

The Loli/Shota thing ultimately doesn't matter, even at Kyuotto-level hate it only does a few things.

Repel people you don't want in your community who would've likely never even heard of you or watched you otherwise.

Spreads your name which inevitably attracts more people who ARE interested in your content (Kyuotto debut with 500 viewers even if she lost 1/5th that's a huge number to start)

The one downside is that it makes it a bit harder to make friends and network, but you can survive without those things if you're able to put out content on other platforms (Youtube shorts, tiktok, twitter videos, etc)

Completely agree with this.

If you want to make it as easy as possible for yourself to grow larger then it's important not to hyper focus on appealing to niche groups.

Maybe the heavier RP stuff is more popular or accepted in Japan but streaming culture in the west is drastically different.

If your RP is a larger than life caricature of stereotypical "pro gamers" or ragers like Dr. Disrespect or Tyler1 then it's meme material, it's funny.

Generally speaking people don't care if you heavily playing into the role of a vampire that got transported into a world full of slimes, the audience can't do anything with that material, there's less to play around with.

Keyfab isn't spitting lore, it's about the tone of the voice and how you react to certain things according to your character. Say you are mr Koro, and she sees an scene where a character is about to cut his finger, ofcourse she's going to relate differently than Luna. Dunno where this belive that keyfab it's just D&D tier crap when it's more simple and all the good vtubers do it.

>> No.9788946

>>9787019
I wasn't referring to "spitting lore", like I said, leaning into your character niche heavily is going to get you a smaller and more niche audience. That's not even a controversial opinion, it's just a fact of how things are.

And if you notice, I was speaking about what constitutes a good WESTERN streamer and not just Vtuber.

> it's more simple and all the good vtubers do it

What big Vtubers actually reference their lore regularly or go as far into "voice acting"?

None of the vshojo girls do it, none of the hololiveEN girls do it, Kuzuha doesn't play up his lore, and the only thing Pekora does is add peko at the end of her sentence otherwise that's literally her normal speaking voice.

Most people don't care about RP, it's just that simple, and saying that isn't an attempt to offend the people who do care about it.

All of the HoloEN girls DO voice act and add a bit of lore, do you even watch them?. I watch normal streamers too and none of them act like any of the holos or even nijis, all of them are voice acting and adding something to form a character. Someone that i think never leans into keyfab is Silvervale, who is just an egirl with an avatar. Here's gura altering the lyrics of a song to fit her keyfab. Again, it's small things but it makes the big difference between watching normal streamers and vtubers. Personally, if i go to a vtuber stream and they are just talking like a normal ethot or nerd kid i leave, why would i watch them when i could watch just normal streamers?

You're literally confusing and conflating keyfabe with streaming persona and general personality differences between content creators.

If you're streaming and play up your inherent personality for the audience that's not keyfabe my guy.

That's like saying your grocery store clerk is keyfabe because they act different when bagging your fruits compared to when they are off the clock.

If 95% of the stream is their normal personality and that last 5% is their entertainment personality sprinkled on, that's not lore or forming a character.

Compare Gura to the ninja guy they were talking about above or the guy from the last /asp thread trying to put on a dark souls voice, it's completely different.

And again, my main point was that most people don't care about RP. Not sure why you're getting sour over that statement, are you arguing that most people do care about RP?

I'm talking about from a general audience point of view and you're speaking about your own personal preferences.

Kayfabe
And if you want to understand Kayfabe you need to understand that it isn't a character and it isn't lore. It is finding the core of your personality, what you really are deep down inside, and dialing it up to 11. It is the distilled essence of yourself portrayed so larger than life that it becomes a character. Because it is you, you will never fail and you will never not know what to say. Most people don't have personalities nowadays. They collect affectations from the media they consume and mistake that for individuality.
You ever talk to someone at a party and they think they are the most hilarious person around but end up trying to count the number of different sources they stole their "personality" from? Like I shoot can not talk to people and find anyone original any more. The few that manage to sort of convince me turn out to be frauds when I stumble upon the game/youtuber they stole their bits from.

that sounds like the most highschool bs take

> most people don’t have personalities nowadays
> find anyone original anymore

no one is original bc personalities are formed by ur environment
if someone anaylzed and broke down every piece of ur personality it would trace back and stem from some other outside influence
ya people have shallow ones, aka they make a handful of things their whole personality
but being like ‘ya i never encounter true originality indivialism anymore’ is retarded

There are a few overall trends and traits that are likely innate.

There are broad personality types that are the result of heritage and environment. Picking and choosing what part of other people you use to create a persona is not the same thing. It is gay and retarded and if you had the slightest bit of life experience you would recognize it.

Instead of thinking through shit on your own while you work a normal job away from media people nowadays inundate themselves 24/7 with other people's thought, and thus are incapable of thinking their own. You are so hyper socialized you don't even see it.
