When I was writing up the draft, Four left even faster and it felt even more forced, and so I tried to fix it but it still felt a bit rushed. I was planning on revealing the name at the end of part 3 but kept it nameless, and regretted doing so but couldn't change what had already been posted. If you're still doing the, for lack of a better term, "/wg/ standard" of 2nd person reader insert, then no.
Unless you're somehow writing a quest 2nd person kind of works best with a (You) character, even if at this point I'm internally parsing Anon in a story as a character name anyway so perhaps the point could be made that Anon is already the name the board likes as the Reader insert name. At least it works its job as an inoffensive placeholder that for the most part works and doesn't break flow outside of stories that can't dodge having to mention the reader insert's name.
It's still your story and you're free to write it how you want but that's my take on this.

So, genuine question. Have you ever cannibalized an old work? I have an entire work of fiction I've never published, never put out anywhere, meant as another fanfic for another fanbase I used to be an author for. I was unhappy with the ending and got tired writing the Bad Ends, took a break and never got back to it. That was almost a year ago. I feel like with Error, it sort of fits the setting. I was considering retooling it. Is this insincere? It's a work I'm genuinely happy with, barring the ending - no matter how much I retooled the story, it felt forced and off, something which sat disgustingly in my mouth. I feel like if I scrapped that ending entirely and reworked it to be something chuuba related, it could flourish. Has anyone else ever done this?

You should really take my advice. It may suck to throw away your hard work but it's for the better. Just take a look at the most controversial fic of this general, the Miyuki fic. You won't find a single mention of what makes Fubuki or her OC daughter unique, it could literally be swapped with any other character and NOTHING would change. Some people with lower standards may blow their load to it but at the end of the day it's a soulless and empty fic. If you just change up an already made story to fit with a chuuba, this is how you're going to end up.
