streams with just the game or whatever:
>can only convey emotion through voice

streams with actual facecams:
>can emote, but now you have the awkward situation where people may be uncomfortable with constantly being on cam or with viewers making unwanted comments about the streamers appearance constantly

vtubers:
>can emote but do so with a proxy, which completely bypasses the problem with uncomfortable potential problems with facecam streams
>also makes fanart way more interesting

i don't think any of this makes or breaks a streamer but it is a pretty nice solution desu

The thought of being able to follow someone as part of an audience and them being there for me to make me smile is great, but I've never been able to get into real life idols since I feel creepy and 2D idols are too distant for my taste, VTubers are the perfect middle ground

I'm socially retarded, insecure, and basically an entitled machild who thinks he's more intelligent than he really is. Real women reasonably don't give a shit about me and leave me on read.

I've learned that self-improvement to an extent is just a meme and that some people are just hopeless. I've accepted it's also not all my parent's fault by how they misguided me in my upbringing but also mine for being such a coward.

Now to answer to the question. Vtubers don't have to see or know me. They'll just read a superchat or two and that's good enough for me because in my head I'm imagining this artificial friendship as something real even though parasocial. Here's an example, I go outside and how do I deal with something stressful like going to a movie theater alone or grocery store? I imagine my favorite oshi is with me. If any of these real women behind their avatars knew about me they'd immediately ban me and be scared I'm a potential stalking serial killer.

I can relate. I did the self improvement shit for the last decade to try getting pussy, but even being mildly /fit/ and making 80k a year women don't give a shit about me because I'm still a balding guy in his mid 20's with an ugly face and a weird head shaoe that makes me look worse totally bald. Any woman who does get past my physical appearance is repulsed by the fact that I'm an autist whose best attempts to be kind & likable 100% of the time gets me put into "acquaintance that is never invited to anything" tier of friendship. I've been bullied and have 0 self confidence left, just anger at myself for managing to be such a worthless cretic.
Vtubers are just how I cope with how I have never met a woman who wants anything to do with my worthless excuse of a life even though I still crave their validation.

More or less this.
For me, I could care less bout streamers. Never got behind the idea of watching someone play a when I can be a it instead. (unless it's for useful tech on a fighting game or a game that I'm interested in) These females are essentially voice actors. They're playing a character while streaming, and I can get behind that. It's a little harder when I see them play a fps and they're really good. Takes me out of the immersion but I enjoyed the little streams that I do tune in to.

I like moe SoL/comedy and don't mind yuribait. Things like YuruYuri and Hidamari Sketch are fucking perfection manifest.

I see a bit of that in Holos sometimes but the thing is you're lucky to get more than 1-2 good moe SoL anime a season while there is a fucking endless gushing river of vtuber content. Anime feels sort of obsolete, if you find a combination of chuubas to fit your humor/moe/iyashikei itches and Holo's spread will usually get you there. Not only that but you can actually interact with them for real which is cool and they can talk about various real-world things and meander around instead of just be an anime scripted on rails for every single frame by its design.

I've got it. The description. You know sandbox video games vs normal ones? Vtubing feels sort of like an anime sandbox. A very limited-scope, small ass sandbox because they only can play a few games, their models can't really move much etc but even that small sandbox + that extra dimension of freedom to move around to make the content, is very neat and endlessly-variable vs anime. So that's probably why I like vtubers. I used to not actually care for them a huge deal, but they slowly grew on me over time to be go-to entertainment that is literally always there and changing.

The amount of girls with interests such as anime and videogames is much much smaller than the amount of guys with those interests.
Vtubers are a way for guys to experience being close with a girl who shares their interests without having to be charismatic and lucky enough to meet one in real life.

The relationship between vtubers and their audience is like a reverse harem but with social engagement instead of sex.

Something like this. I am guilty of enjoying reaction-based streamers, but 3D flesh-and-blood streamers overreacting falls into uncanny valley for me, whereas normal reactions are just boring and not worth watching. On the other hand from early childhood I have been conditioned to accept overreactions as normal if they come from cartoon characters, so it really is quite obvious why I should prefer vtubers.

I also feel like vtuber culture in general tends to favour variety streamers more which is what keeps me coming back to watch the same faces, but for abovementioned reasons, it's not like I have perused too deeply what 3D streamers have to offer.
