I did a roleplay scene that introduces the character I would be for Red Riding Hood and it shows my voice acting and vocal range. Maybe you can do something like that too? If not I think making an introduction with the character you want to be is okay too.

Its literally all they want.
Don't take it too seriously or overthink it. Just show them what they can expect from you.

If you're not good enough, waiting or working hard isn't going to make you good enough, you're not going to be able to "fake it". You've either been doing your streaming reps and are able to make content, or you slacked off and you'll suck at it. If you suck at it then get to doing your reps and do it next audition.

It's just a barely-formed idea in my head for now, but I've been thinking of taking up vtubing. Would viewers have a problem with a female character that has a male voice? Listening to your vocaroo, the recording level was very slow, but I think your English is very understandable, and I think a lot of people would find the accent charming.

For the singing, the center of pitch moved around a lot, but since you're singing without a backing track, it can be difficult to keep that straight. As for your voice itself, I would recommend first to practice diaphraghmatic breathing. So, sit straight, feet planted on the ground, and take a deep breath in. Don't raise your shoulders, but instead feel your lungs expand in every direction, pushing downward. If you put your hands on your stomach below your ribcage, you'll feel that expansion.

Now, breathing like that, and singing that way will give you much greater breath support, and I think you'll find it improves your singing (and speech) a lot.

For working on your pitch, I would recommend looking up ear training (interval training) exercises online. These will help you maintain those strong relationships between pitches, and keep you from getting off onto sour notes. I recommend recording yourself, and listening back, to confirm if you really are singing on pitch. It's hard to do without someone there with you, but recording yourself is your best friend. With those first few steps, I think you'll find a lot of improvement happening very quickly.

I definitely encourage you to get started! Stream with a scuffed homemade PNG and see if you like it. If you do, then you can get things together to invest further into streaming. Good luck, anon!

I'm thinking of doing a "speedrun" of a game this weekend. It's relatively short (can be done in under 20 minutes), but what I plan on doing is one "regular" play through first for people who don't know the game. then after that go through a speedrun, explaining everything along the way (it's not actually gonna be fast or anything, but just following the routes and stuff)

rewatch vods. do it. force yourself to do it. you're looking for a few things
>basic streamer stuff
>are you interacting with chat
>what was something better you could have done or said?
Randon offered the example of getting into an argument with someone, and then coming up with better arguments later while you're in the shower and how you would have won if you thought of it then. that's what you're looking for. when someone it chat said something, what did you say, and how could you have riffed off it for something even better?

other shit is to start making offline content on youtube because that has the potential to grow your brand without you ever touching it. edit together clips and highlights and put them on youtube so they get new subs, clicks, views even while you're taking a break. focusing 100% on twitch will burn you out because you cannot grow if you're not live and actively streaming.

general advice and manager larp:
>make content first, everything comes 2nd to content
>planning out your stream content is 10000x more important that having an overlay or having whatever follow or sub notifications set up, or even a model to start with
>if you're planning on doing gaming content you're going to need something else to make you stand out, there are too many of those already
>your first streams will suck, just accept it and improve every stream
>make an effort to tangibly improve something ever week, adding a new overlay element, new schedule template, new alerts, new content, something should be visibly better about your stream every week
>stream using a temp account to practice because you might not like your initial character design or want your ultra scuffed streams to be in your VODs
>do your reps for at least 3 weeks to see if you can keep a consistent schedule before dropping any serious cash on this
>get used to talking to no one, too many vtubers rely on chat to feed them topics and things to talk about, you should be leading your chat by the hand on what you want to talk about and be able to handle a completely dead chat and have a one way conversation or lecture on a topic for your stream length
>put a post it note on your monitor of things you want to talk about that stream
>put a post it note of names on your monitor, use those whenever you need a name for a story, do not use your real name, a friends, real name, or your pets real name
>change details in every story you tell as a standard practice to avoid doxxing
>clear your name out of doxx sites, use the pastebin for a reference on how to do that
>check archives for any previous identities you could have to see what comes up if someone does break your opsec
>watch your streams back, at least skipping through to hear how things go, write down note on how you would feel if you were watching this as a viewer

It's important to have something stable and constant in your life, so I hate to see them go like that.

No worries, they're interspaced with random crushed pigeons, the source of which I've yet to find actually, because they're never on the road and instead always crop up on the sidewalk. They turn out pretty cool, because once the feathers are gone you get a sort of skeletal imprint, like on the fossils, and since most of the time they throw their wings up to apparently fly away before getting crushed, they end up looking like little pterodactyl corpses.

>ps2 looking mf
Don't wanna be pedantic but that's more psx than ps2. ps2's could have upwards of 5,700 polygons, and that's including average lighting and unique textures/shaders. The polygon count is abudantly lacking if that was a ps2 inspired model, and the resolution for the textures is far lower quality than most game companies would be using.
also I'm glad there's some interest for it since I want to do something involving low poly ps1 style modelling and rigging in the future for my vtubing stuff

Try looking up #256fes on twitter and other social media. It's a challenge that encourages people to work within the old restrictions psx and n64 developers worked within, and was the industry standard for working on non-important NPCs or enemies. Sure you'll find some stuff you like.

Of course, very much so. Unfortunately, most average viewers aren't ready to sink their teeth into anything too crazy or off-par, and most content creators are either too afraid to take the risk and lose popularity, or aren't popular enough for their crazy idea to pay off.

I'm not going to do anything too crazy, so hopefully my idea pays off. Planning to make a PS1 model for every and any person I collab with, since it ties into my Vtuber kayfabe in a way

short answer: it's overpriced and a bit overkill but will be good for streaming

long answer: the parts in that build are overpriced for just streaming. the 3080, power supply, and windows are especially expensive. they also don't list any model types for any component besides the cpu, cpu cooler and case so you're paying to get probably the cheapest possible hardware that meet the listed part. if you want to save money, you can get a lower wattage power supply and a 3070 at most. personally, i wouldn't get a prebuilt from this website since i'd like to know what specifically is in my computer and would rather go to a website that does list their components like cyberpower or ibuypower.

Hey /asp/, I'm new to this thread and wondering what advice I should be following if I'm only wanting to do this shit casually. I'm literally on step 0 of becoming vtube, still working out a character design that I can post a description of, but I can't draw for shit and haven't been able to find an artist who can help me with at least getting a base design/reference sheet.

My motivation for this is not to make this into a career. I already have two careers; a full-time civilian job and soon-to-be reservist in my country's military. I'm not fantasizing about being a known content creator, making money, meeting my oshis, or have a huge fanbase. Literally, I just want to have a cool design to use for online accounts instead of the same anime pfp I've had for years. I want to use a Live2D in occasional streams or videos with friends, and to have a hobby that involves meeting/networking with others. Honestly, I could probably go without streaming myself and still be happy just having the model for other friends to use when I play with them if they're streaming.

So a lot of the advice I've seen about how to do your stream reps, avoiding IRL info, and planning out weekly content just doesn't fit with me. I do want to be entertaining and to improve, but I know that my priorities have to remain on IRL shit, so I want to know what I can focus on to at least make for a passable stream or online persona.

Some additional info about my character idea:
> Envisioned design is male chuuba with animal ears & tails
> Not super masculine, but not androgynous either, more just pretty boi aesthetic if possible
> brown debuff cuz I'm latino irl and want to keep the debuff in virtual cuz fuck it
> Literally undecided on name, might use real name/current username or might make brand new name

On that last point, my usernames have always been a variation of my IRL name and I have no idea if I should keep it like this for chuuba or if I need to get used to a completely different name and make new accounts for everything. Since I'm planning to be forever 2view/noview male indie I don't really care about being super secretive with my personal life.

I think it's a self fulfilling prophecy. Obviously if you're benchmarking yourself against any holomember, you're going to feel like a failure. That's the most well known vtuber agency in the world.

There are tons of female 2views on Twitch as well as males. Have clear and realistic expectations for what you want to achieve, as well. If you're expecting a thousand followers overnight, you're going to be let down. But if you want to make good content, and don't mind streaming to only a few people to start, you'll leave the 2view world behind.

I don't think the male debuff is real in the way people think it is. It's a case of misplaced expectations. The same audience that wants to watch Gura make cute noises while dying in a game probably isn't the same audience for your content. Your audience might not even know about vtubers yet! It's your job to find and connect with the audience that will resonate with your content.

>> No.8767307

>>8766959
If you're just doing it as a hobby, it really doesn't matter. Your hobby is your hobby, do what makes you happy and don't rely on feedback from a bunch of anons who might have different goals than you do.

Art is probably the easiest thing, really. You can frankenstein a character by copying and pasting various parts of characters you like and creating a reference image that way. Then give it to a fairly cheap artist to put it together in a render. You can take that render to a more skilled artist later to get the full model afterwards done in the skilled artist's style.

Only thing that would help is taking improve classes and speech classes. Might be safe or might not depending on where you are because of covid, but you might be able to take some online. At its core, vtubing is just being an entertainer on stream with a virtual avatar. So you just need to practice on speaking well and being entertaining.

I'm not sure what you're trying to ask for here. "I want advice but I don't really want to put in effort and have no desire to make it". Or do you want to make a name for yourself but in a way that doesn't take any time out of your life otherwise or something?
If you just want an anime OC you can do that on your own. If you want easy popularity, I dunno, scrap your entire design and make a big tittied girl and hope people don't get hard filtered by your voice.
You don't need any real advice if you don't care in the first place. I'm not saying you or anyone starting out should treat this as more than a "hobby" either, but you seem to be set on not wanting to 'make it' at all.

I guess I just view "advice on how to be a better/entertaining vtuber" as different from "advice on how to be a popular vtuber". I'm not saying they're mutually exclusive, but I have to assume that some advice is for the latter and not the former.

But I've also only ever put out a dozen videos or so in about as many years, so I'm honestly the last authority to decide that.

So you guys are telling me that streaming with an anime avatar is a real, relatively profitable side gig anyone could be doing?
Am i just too old to see it working so easily?
What about all those 0views that are all over the streaming platforms?

Say, i walk up to 100 people on the street and start a conversation.
Assuming 10 people find me interesting to speak to - this sounds way easier to find "audience".

You can't just "walk up" to people on the internet.
I don't think there is a deliberate way to find an audience.
You just have to be lucky doing the right shit at the right time and catch the attention of those 10 strangers.
And you have to be actively trying as well. You never know the chance until you're there.
So all in all it sounds like chore, especially for people with no real skills or talents to showcase.

Every person is "unique", and some other people will find this person interesting to listen to, assuming we are talking about streamer-viewers.
Imagine 100 people. All have "correct" streaming setups: avatars, mics, mixers, OBS settings, overlays etc etc etc.
All identical quality, only different person behind the avatar.
They all start streaming on some streaming platform.
Some people start getting viewers, some still at 0. This starting butch of viewers is only determined by luck and i can't be proven otherwise.
So, logically, there can't be natural growth from zero to hero.

I don't even know why i decided to blog-post like that.
Sorry. Here is a picture of a cute cat.

>> No.8799247

>>8778396
The following is just my opinion.
First of all, i believe that avatar matters the least for starting streamers.
Second of all, I've spent around 5 minutes watching your Risk of Rain stream and around 1 minute of the recent VR game that i know nothing about.

I believe the streamer with a male voice have to be above average at video games (preferably very good at them), if it's the content of the stream.
I saw a lot of speedrunners who got attention from their speedruns and now are very successful variety streamers.
In other words, if you're great at some game, the community around that game could notice you if you're also active in that community.
You seem to be doing VR, so if i were you i would try to somehow connect with people from VR communities.
I don't think it's possible to gain an audience from the internet as a whole, you have to narrow it down to communities and go from there.

Now, about the voice and the way you speak. I know it may be not helpful, but i wouldn't listen to you more. Compared to streamers i watch it is not "catchy".
To improve your tone and the way you communicate you may try speaking to yourself in the mirror.
You also sounded somewhat stiff.

This text might be a bunch of bullshit, don't take it too seriously. You are you, remember to have fun more than anything.

>So you guys are telling me that streaming with an anime avatar is a real, relatively profitable side gig
Yes
>anyone could be doing?
No
>You can't just "walk up" to people on the internet.
Yes, you can. People congregate on the internet in the same way they do on the street, but far more densely packed and arranged in groups organized by interest.
>You just have to be lucky
I think luck is a far smaller factor than you think. You are marketing yourself. This is a skill and doesn't fall down to chance.
>So all in all it sounds like chore, especially for people with no real skills or talents to showcase
Exactly. A vtuber needs to understand social media, they must be an entertainer and they must have skills.
>Every person is "unique"
Completely wrong. Every person is not special. This is extremely evident in an environment where you are competing for views with everyone else on the platform.
> All have "correct" streaming setups...All identical quality
Also wrong. There are very large differences between vtubers. Model quality, audio quality, internet quality. Their economic condition and the amount of energy they can bring to their stream are directly connected.
Not to mention, shitloads of vtubers are well known long before their debut. I watched a debut of a popular artist who got 8k viewers on her first day. I've never seen her with fewer than 300 viewers. This is a medium anyone can join, don't think that means everyone starts from 0. If any big celeb decided to start vtubing, you wouldn't be competing with them, they already have their viewerbase.

Man, you're literally in a thread full of people who haven't made it and are talking about how to. Maybe people pop in after getting signed, but do you think anybody here is saying how easy it is? Read this shit and tell me it's easy.

Basically, you're a fucking idiot.

Move the mic to the side of your mouth rather than right in front, add a noise gate to keep anything below speaking volume out, add a compressor to even out loudness (makes quiet stuff audible and reduces loud peaks) and put a limiter at about -10dB.
That's the super basic stuff I do at least.

>I think luck is a far smaller factor than you think. You are marketing yourself. This is a skill and doesn't fall down to chance.
Marketing is not some magical wand, at least i don't think so.
It's there to gain an edge, but doesn't solve everything by itself.
>Completely wrong. Every person is not special.
That is exactly what i meant, hence the quotation marks.

I might be just replying for the sake of it.

>Marketing is not some magical wand
Marketing is a hammer that you use to beat the skulls of the unwilling until they finally click your link. It's not like
> "Hey, check me out, I'm streaming~"
It's more like, can you make a meme about yourself? Can you integrate into a vtuber collective? Can you clip yourself and post it to TikTok? Can you identify your audience and target places where they go, or are you assuming who your audience will be and posting in the wrong places? Finally, can you do this regularly without getting banned from wherever you're posting?

Trusting the twitch algorithm to deliver anyone to you is like hoping someone will knock on your front door and ask about it.

There are people, "clippers" who clip based on their own whims. These people generate huge traffic to the clipped channel. I am posting here because of them, partly. You can do this. If you take your best content and reduce it to a five second clip that makes someone laugh, they might be interested enough to watch you and wait to laugh again. This 'is' marketing and another type of content generation.

The thing is, "luck" is oftentimes the product of a significant amount of work and effort to put yourself in a position to get "lucky" in the first place.

You have to create opportunities for yourself if you're ever going to take them. Nobody magically stumbles into success, but someone who puts themselves in the best place to succeed has a chance to actually break out from the pack.

This is a good one.
Thanks for the information.

No problem, thank you for the advice! That was my first time playing Risk of Rain and it was rather late so it was pretty overwhelming for me at first. I open up more further along the stream when I'm more comfortable with the mechanics and with a few chatters egging me on. I understand the deal about my voice though, I've been looking to do some voice training and have a playlist created to help with my problem areas such as intonation and enunciation. Though I will admit I'm much more energetic during my boxing. My abilities playing flatscreen video games are sorely lacking so I don't believe I'll draw an audience from speed running or challenges, however I am currently joining a number of VRC Discord servers that I plan to utilize as soon as I have my model.
