Clips uploaded by the vtuber themself are fine. These represent genuinely what the vtuber wishes to show to the audience. But very few vtubers upload curated clips like Nyanners does. For most Holos (and probably Nijis, but I don't follow enough of them to know for sure) the vast majority of clips you're getting are tailored to make money off the vtuber in question. Yes, clippers monetize. Yes, Cover, Anykara, and youtube allow this. Any joke that the vtuber may have wanted to be a one-off thing will be exploited as clickbait by clippers (Kiara recently spoke out against this with her bottom-left meltdown). All that being said, it's fine to watch clips about vtubers you don't care that much about. Just don't come to these threads acting like you know everything about vtubers you've only seen clips of.
