I don't think anyone actually hates on the holostars boys, but being a holostar is a huge debuff compared to Niji because Hololive's audience is largely western (compared to Nijisanji's mostly japanese audience) and there's the fact that from the start Holostars was harrassed by unicorns.
It's not really a matter of quality but rather numbers, which is really ironic because the discussion flips sides when it's about the girls.

First, Astel never been better in Apex than any average Niji male. He's only good at hiding behind circle like a little bitch. Singing ability is too subjective to compare. For me, Astel singing sounds like toilet flushing, can't really stand it. For someone else, it might be different.
And in terms in overall quality - both Niji boys and Holostars had a long time to prove themselves. JP audience choose Niji boys, because they are clearly better. EN audience choose Holostars, because EN audience are retarded (I am seriously - just go around reddit and 4chan and you'll see how dumb they are).

I watch Nijimales but I'm sure Holostars are good too. I only catch Astel's stream sometimes but he's good at apex and he's a really good singer. And all the Holostars seem really close with each other.

The closest thing I'll get to tribalism over males is "I wish the Holostars were in Nijisanji instead", and even that is just because I hate Cover and how much they've failed the stars up to now. And even then its not actual tribalism. I'd be fine with Cover improving too, I've just been a Holo fan long enough that I doubt that'll happen in any meaningful way.
