Bae somehow avoids sounding holier than thou despite translating her EN quite often, FWMC don't often auto translate at all but when they speak JP it doesn't sound all "heh, i'm in" that IRyS and Kiara give off.

The phonetical differences advantages english speakers tremendously. japs only have like 5 sounds and you can learn them inside of a weekend.
The reason they never progress past engrish is that they just never develop the muscles necessary to say our extra sounds.

Not that anon but there's a difference been not being used to making a sound, and not being capable at all. I learned two languages as an adult that had a lot of unfamiliar and uncomfortable sounds, but I was able to "progress" despite that. It doesn't come instantly, but nor was I unable to "develop" the habits of making those sounds. Maybe some 80 year old has no hope of learning new sounds, but the rest of us definitely can.

Evidently while english-speakers speak/sing japanese with a distinct accent, it's still passably japanese pronunciation and doesn't really stand out as particularly foreign. Tokyo is an absolute mess of different regional accents and dialects so everybody sounds a little foreign to everybody. For the most part, ENs don't make any major pronunciation mistakes (like jps switching L and R or ESLs failing to pronounce TH) so it doesn't really stand out compared to the many other accents they encounter.

English is a really odd language. More odd than most, and that means there's countless landmines that trip up new speakers, whereas there isn't always the same difficulty the other way.
