Eh, I wouldn't say 2 ruined the prequels: we knew as far back as Episode 1 that Anakin was going to be Darth Vader and that would at some point involve having Luke and Leia being born which meant we would have to get to see their mother at some point in the trilogy.

I can agree that the romance part was handled... very questionably at best, but it also would have been unsatisfying if in the 3rd movie we got see Padme for the first time and then she died. You can find the chain of events that led to them getting together to be sort of awkward (i mean this is the same guy who retroactively made Leia kissing Luke on the cheek weird), but it at least didn't feel rushed, and whether you're the type to consider it canon or not, the Clone Wars TV show does at least build on their relationship quite a bit.
