Before all the high profile reincarnations, people were memed into believing that the characters are different from the person behind them. There weren't enough fans of the small vtubers PLs who ended up joining big corpos to really argue against this. Plenty of people watched Coco, Rushia, Pikamee, Mysta, Nina, Selen, Pomu, Mika, etc, however. So seeing them act the exact same way they always did when they reincarnate made people stop viewing the vtuber character as being different from the person behind them.

Now, most of the discussion of PL stuff are centered around Vtubers that everyone here at least knew of their existence of, moving on to new personas and not making any efforts beyond their legally mandated ones to hide it. I think the shift really started with the plebbit dragon, it's ridiculous to act like her situation is some hidden knowledge
