Backstory for those who care. WotC, producers of mtg, had a big celebration last year for their 30th anni. They said they were going to put out a bunch of product to remember and celebrate the history of the game. The biggest product they hyped was a non-game-legal reprint of the original set, alpha/beta with a different back than a normal magic card and different art. Some people were hyped, and then on the same stream they announced that 4 packs of it would cost $1000. Everything prior to this with a limit has sold out on their site within an hour of going up, but they put up this tweet and took down the sale of them after 5 hours. Everyone assumed they didn't sell anywhere near the limited amount they made.

The decision to close the live service worldwide was made before the decision to open up the live service to the west.

All the mobile games are, at least. SIF died because it was a fucking dinosaur that fell behind the times, SIF2 died because it was just SIF 2.0 with none of the updates needed to bring it up to industry standards, and SIFAS died from a mix of incessant power creep demoralizing players plus a godawful story arc that made people hate half the characters involved (and thus unwilling to roll for them).
The anime and music have been doing decently though IIRC so the franchise isn't kill, though its two latest mobages flopping definitely hasn't helped it at all.
