I've known someone else who was mute. I thought it was weird but they apparently just... couldn't speak. Like they could type and everything and make noises fine but they just couldn't form words. If it weren't for the internet, they wouldn't really be able to communicate at all with people outside of writing or sign language.

I forgot to mention that their job was as a coder on a well known gamedev project, IE something that absolutely never required human vocal interaction. You'd never know they were mute because of this unless you actually either knew them IRL or were wondering why they always seemed suspiciously unwilling to join VC. They even used discord to communicate to people right next to them.
