if you plan to stay indie, which i heavily recommend, don't make a design that's too far off from yourself, include little details like moles, make it so you can see yourself in the model when you stare a OBS for hours
turns out many chuubas go for a closer to irl self model with their 2.0 design
you don't want to get jealous of the model

To answer your questions, 2D but 3D someday would be amazing! I need eye catching designs, something cute, something that looks like she could be your little sister, something soft. I don't really look at myself all that much, I have no mirrors and don't take pictures of myself so I'd prefer to make a model I like regardless of whether it looks like myself, I became interested in VTubers because you can be what you want! I think I'll stay indie forever, doubt any company would be interested in me since I don't have any connections to get anywhere and that's okay with me, I already have a job so I'm not going into VTubing as a career path to get money to pay my bills, I just want to make content and have fun.

since you are looking for a design i assumed you don't already have an OC you strongly identify with
when you go corpo they often cast for a set design and you have to fit be mold, some will let you design your own char
OC design mainly goes two ways:
>cram all the aspects of anime girls you like into one and end up with something busy looking that is who you'd like to see in anime
or
>start with more yourself and make her closer to your ideal, rockstar, idol, cottagecore shepherdess
the first path requires you to act as someone you aren't usually it works out but you lose a bunch of lore and design aspects along the way and 2.0 ends up being simpler and you down to earth

another assumption is, if you are asking here, you are going for comfy not necessarily a complex setting with a bunch of themed lore

take picrel Nino for instance, her lore/setting is great but it's never really relevant she ends up called a roach because of her bug friends and ahoge more than an exorcist, don't think she is happy about the roach thing but she did draw her own model and made it close to herself (down to the moles) so still easy to identify with the screen once chat has decided that you design and setting doesnt matter and you're a roach now
