Hope everyone is having a great Monday!! I work full-time and have roughly 4 hours every day that I want to dedicate to streaming as a VTuber, the model is being worked on currently. I mainly play retro games like the Golden Sun series, The Legacy of Kain series, Suikoden series, Mana series, Shining series, Chrono series, Mother series, Terranigma and way more. I can sing, play piano, dance and I speak three languages.

I’ve been lurking these threads for a bit trying to find some useful information regarding what to do and what not to do as a VTuber. The biggest thing I see repeated is how we should network. I already have little time to do things such as watch streams to try to network and when I begin streaming all my time will be taken up by my full-time job and 4 hours of daily streams so is there anything I can do to network that will take maybe a few minutes? I will mainly do solo streams where I play games, sing, play piano and even dance if I can one day save up my money for a 3D model but I would like to do collaboration streams with other female VTubers from time to time.

Aside from that I thought of buying an advertisement since it’s $20 on 4chan, I hope that $20 will be well spent. I don’t know how much it’d cost to buy advertisements on other sites but if they’re relatively cheap I will look into it. Sorry for the long post and thank you for all the tips and discourse regarding how to start out as a VTuber, I appreciate these threads!!

If you want to collab with people just slide into their DMs and ask. Don't try to DM people much bigger than you are. Even if you're genuine they're just going to assume the obvious and ignore you.
Personally I don't really like the term "networking", the best thing you can do when starting out is to treat this as a hobby and treat other vtubers like friends with the same hobby. If you luck into success then great, but personally I think it's very obvious to viewers when someone's only goal is growth.

Can I ask why you say not to buy an advertisement? I sometimes see them here. As someone with 0 connections I figured it would be a good way to get some people to give me a try. This will always be a hobby to me, I likely won’t monetize anything because I already work full-time and I love my job since I’m a workaholic. The best advice is to start streaming as soon as possible. You have a model worked on so it's good to start with a PNG and start streaming games and then do a debut when your model is done and you've gathered a fanbase. Otherwise the longer you wait, the worse it gets for you.

Also networking is easier if you've started streaming so people have a face to put you to when making friends instead of a random.

Im gonna estimate you would have a timeline of about 6 months before you get everything else ready and it's gonna a long time in the streaming world. My artist is Japanese so there is a time difference but she gave me a lot of ideas to pick from and I’m waiting to hear back from her after she makes some changes. OPSEC TIPS

1 - Don't post personal information on social media. Names, addresses, selfies, photos with exif data still attached, etc.
If you're posting irl photos, take it, sleep on it, and recheck it in the morning for reflections and shit.

2 - Use a separate email address solely dedicated to your vtuber identity that will serve as a nexus for all your accounts.

2.5 - Use a separate browser entirely for your personal life and your vtuber life. For example use Firefox for personal use and Microsoft Edge for your vtuber account.
This ensures zero possibility of an auto-fill, bookmark, or even social media account logged in yab. (Don't import settings from one to the other, obviously).

3 - Create a fresh Steam account and use the Steam Family Share feature to access games that are already installed on your computer (that you own on your Main).
There will be no way to connect your new Steam account to your old account as Steam does not reveal Family Share status (unless you're screencapping the actual Steam window itself, which... why would you ever do that?)

4 - Write down a completely generic and random name that's not associated with you or anyone you know. Day[9]'s was "Felicity." Write that name on a stickynote and stick it on your monitor's bottom bezel.
Whenever you tell a story about "someone", you're going to reference "Felicity" (or whatever other name). This is here to help you avoid naming real life people you know. If possible avoid telling stories about people you know to begin with.

5 - Google search "Your Name" + "City". You'll find that there's like 20 different 'public info' database websites. They all have methods on opt-ing out and removing your data.
Doesn't mean the data is gone, just means that the particular website you requested data removal from won't make it so obviously easy.

OneRep is a website that collects (almost) all of the public records websites. This is going to suck, but you're gonna go through every one of those and follow the Opt-Out procedure for each and everyone of them. (To be fair, this level of opsec only really applies if you're super paranoid or win the lottery in a non-anonymous winner state)

6- Don’t give people a reason to go after you. It doesn’t matter if you literally have your name and address publicly available if people don’t care.
In general, steering clear of controversial topics and not baiting communities will help a lot. That’s not to say you can’t have your own opinions, but this is different from specifically seeking drama.
