the bump on a membrane switch is what damages your wrists, that extra resistance near the end of a keystroke leads to bottoming out with extra force
mechanical switches don't have that same problem

>>70683100
there are a lot of options you know
the normal fullsized 100% layout and the compressed 96% both come with numpads
or buy a separate USB numpad that you can move when you don't need it
or design your own PCB and case with a numpad

carpal tunnel's extremely common, you know, and most of that's from keyboard use

>>70684952
nah, there's a lively market in mechanical keyboards from the 70s and 80s for actual use and not just as museum pieces since they're that durable, all they need is some cleaning and a USB converter
if switches start dying, it's relatively simple to desolder and replace one, but even that's not necessary these days with how common hotswap PCBs are and how cheap switches are, it takes five seconds to pop one out and replace
if your membrane's lasted 20 years, that's really quite exceptional since the rubber layer ought to have died long ago especially on commonly used keys like WASD, and nothing's modular so if one part's busted the whole thing's gotta go

they are highly customizable and in my experience, they can be extremely durable compared to membrane and if something fails it's easy to replace that single piece

>ive heard friends complain about their expensive mechanicals failing several times

>>70683100
while not as common as the TKL layout, there are mechanical keyboards with numpads

>price
like everything else, it depends on what you're getting and the branding of the equipment, like you can easily find a membrane Corsair with shitty RGB that is 2X the price of a mechanical one because of the gaymer aesthetics shit

plus it feels nice to type in one, and yeah, autism might have played a role here, but idc

Because it feels better to use. Because you are using it for many hours each day. Because it lasts 10-20 years.
You retards are feeling smug over saving a couple of cents per month while having a much worse user experience. That's extremely stupid. Things you use a lot should be the last place to be stingy.

don't you think the sound is part of the UX? because mechanical slop is unbearably loud, and even the "quiet" ones are much louder than a better membrane one.

I have never touched a mechanical keyboard that feels better than even a 50$ Logitech membrane keyboard.
The keystrokes are loud and too weighty. Sure, you can buy silent and light keycaps. But what's the point? It's just like how many Gamers™ use RGB anything in their builds. It's become the standard if you want to show off, but there's no real benefit.
