The 2 things they could do were, 1) say and do nothing and let the public run with their own fanfics of what happened which all boils down to kawaii and the remaining talents are horrible, or 2) refute the claims and still be considered horrible because the mere act of defending means guilt.
This isn't a case of corpo PR saying or doing something wrong. Gen 3 won the moment they left.

I would still argue that having a standard graduation stream or at least not having previous gens throw shade at them would have worked better for kawaii. Gen 3 didn't respond to that stream and, as far as I know, never said anything bad about the remaining talents. They ended up looking more professional.

Understatement. V-dere appeared at the Vtuber Awards as a nominee and now, the star guests of Offkai. Nene begged her tomos to vote her into the ASMR category but she was out-voted and didn't even qualify. Where is KWABaii now? Are they even going to the biggest Vtuber convention of the year or will they get outshone by four lil buddies, again?!

kawaii was on the defense and any rebuttal or act of denying the accusations from the public is considered throwing shade. Like I said, the act of defending is considered bad meaning gen 3 won.

Like I said before, they didn't need to because they knew how to play the game. Why say anything when you can make the public create narratives to help your case? If gen 3 never said anything then why did the public conclude that kawaii and the talents were the bad people? What did the public base their conclusions on? See how this works now?
I don't know why in the vtubing sphere people think ignoring accusations is the "correct" way to handle things when that isn't how it works. Add in the primitive logic of, if you deny something then you are actually guilty of it then it just gets a bit pathetic.
It's the same tactic people use nowadays. Someone accuses you of being racist and you deny it but because you deny it you are actually racist. Only a racist would deny being a racist. Yes, I'm not making that up.

She was literally under the impression that we wouldn't get a new gen "for a long time" only a few weeks before gen 4 was announced and you could almost see how stunned she was through her model when she talked about the audition announcement on stream.
The one thing the kawaii girls have all consistantly said about management is that they are are difficult to communicate with and often have no common sense (this seems to be less true now than it was in early days when "management" was Koshita in his dad's basement with a 2008 alienware laptop emailing indie flesh streamers about a vtuber corp he was making with not even a website to show for it).
