https://www.reddit.com/r/Nijisanji/comments/1awxjsk/this_is_the_reason_why_nijisanji_financial_is/

tldr:
>niji bought 2.5 billion yen worth of stock
>pre buyback price was around 3150 to 3300. Peak in early January 2024 (after buyback finished) was 3800
>Selen controversy caused it to crater under pre buyback price (3040 as of now), worst since June of 2023.
>Niji blew 18 million USD into nothing. Even lost more money on top of that since stock price is lower than when buyback started/finished.
> Niji's IR statement last year mentioned how NijiEN would be the "pillar of their business." Yet EN's reputation is nuked
>ID, IN, and KR are all dead due to mismanagement, actual clique behavior, and cut cutting.
>Enna's recent concert and bday live. Compared to last year, views and earnings are down almost by half, with most of the donors/viewers from Hong Kong (compared to last year, which was mostly the US).
>showing trends of EN terminal decline
>march 16th is shareholders meeting and riku has to explain to his Chinese bosses why they should totally believe him this time after another branch is on fire (4th branch in total, CN is probably going to go on fire too since CCP is cracking down).

What is the ramification of Nijisanji going down under? How would that affect Vtubing, and Vtubers in Japan?

This is one of the drawbacks of stock buybacks. If the fundamentals aren't good then it's just pissing into the ocean. The real thing to watch for is their debt to income ratio since the loans are based on the corpo's equity either staying constant or going up. Since Niji doesn't have any real hard tangible assets it's probably safe to say most of their equity is the stocks, so if that goes down significantly the lender might force immediate repayment of debts which would force the corpo into involuntary bankruptcy.

But they know they have an ill-regarded reputation, and ever since they booted Yugo and saw fans complain of the lack of transparency regarding his termination, they try to be more transparent and ALWAYS fuck up. This time with Selen they tried to went on the offensive fucking TWICE, one with a statement the other with livers, and both went bad. "stock buybacks are for when you want to return money to investors, but don't want to force a dividend (which gets taxed).

usually, a mature company, with limited new investment options, will do stock buybacks - there's no better use of their money.

A startup or new company, with a lot of potential investment options, should not want to do a stock buyback. After all, the original investment thesis for a new company is that the startup is going to reinvest earnings into more earnings, get more marketshare etc, and is therefore a better investment spend.

Is niji a startup? or a mature company?"

Holy shit.
I think I just found something.
This is a answer to the shareholders who ask if graduations are within expectations.
Terminations essentially aren't being considered to be part of the quota cause they violated policy or start controversy.
So to appease the shareholders and their expectations of graduations, they can just terminate instead to lower the graduation count as a termination is not part of the expection quota as they are due to unexpected misbehaviours.
If there are too many graduations, Riku would be in shit cause they went beyond company expectations, hence they need a reason to terminate someone.

>> No.69730590

JP is self sustaining enough to probably carry most of the company in the financial report, but EN has only ever been responsible for 15-16% of the company's total revenue per quarter. Considering that Anycolor hasn't really invested much in their international branches after going public, the fact that their reputation is currently in the gutter to where talents are quitting before they even have the chance to debut, and with how EN has become a major liability within less than a month, there's no way Riku is going to keep this sideshow going for that much longer. It's necessary for infinite financial growth but the cons are really outweighing any positive benefits.

>>69730072
>Vox said anyone can leave at any time.
Selen tried to leave, but the company dragged their feet during the process until she got her lawyer involved. Plus, what's to say that people aren't trying to leave en masse like ID or KR too? Its just that they're probably running into roadblocks of their own.

>> No.69730600

desu if they genuinely want to recover their stock price excising the EN branch would be the first step. the branch has no profitable talents left after Selen and Pomu's departures and it's just a liability at this point. starting fresh with a 3rd(third!) attempt at an EN branch without any of the baggage of the current one might allow them a chance to rebuild. if they just continue on with these people who are being actively accused of bullying/harassment like Enna and Millie then the boycott will never end. it'll end up like a Sony situation where the company's reputation gets so bad that it hampers any future attempts because people will just spam "Fuck Nijisanji" to any project announcements like they do for Sony.

I do now because they're choosing to stay in a company that led a coworker to try and kill herself.
Before I did feel bad for some of them because I thought they're stuck their. And I know Mysta and Pomu, and I assume Kyo but I don't watch him so don't know if/what he commented about his graduation process, talked about knowing they wanted to graduate six months in advance. It seems in their case, however, more than a cue, they wanted to finish up some projects and hit some goals before leaving. We already know from people like Noraneko and Hada that you could take a hiatus and come back whenever. So even if they had to "wait" to graduate, they could chose to not stream, but they chose to do so.
Plus, being really, really honest with you, I'm quite tired of the shilling those two get here. I checked them out and they're nothing special. Not bad people or anything, but it's like goddamn, I was expecting to fall in love or bust my gut laughing or something the way some of you fags shill both Vivi and Rosemi (I have long suspected it's the same coterie of idiots doing this because the wording and enthusiasm with which both are shilled is eerily similar) and all I got was just some not very funny chick that was cute sometimes. I think its the OP mixing up the term with Financial Results, and the financial results per quarter usually seem to be a day ahead or behind of the one held the prior year. Financial results will absolutely be held mid March judging by this pattern.

I'm no experts on stocks either anon, but today their stock price hit the lowest its ever been in 6 months. The pressure is rising at Anycolor because they bought back a ton of stocks in December, and they don't want to lose money either. In a worst case scenario, this could potentially lead to drastic measures being taken, not even for the EN branch but maybe even the main JP branch. I will say, from all of their statements and what talents have said, it is admittedly difficult to tell if the graduated livers have a legal contract that allows them to have control of how their former character is used (If they are graduated and not terminated) or if its just a 'keep friendly with graduated livers' situation.
I personally suspect the former as I dont see anycolor giving any rights away at all

That's not what happened. Selen commissioned all the artists and had them sign the standard Nijisanji perms forms. The official issue with the song, according to Nijisanji, is that Selen posted it without her manager's permission. After waiting 30 hours with no reply. Because she wanted it up on Christmas as a gift to her fans.

They never stated that there was anything explicitly wrong with the permissions or that any of the artists fucked up. It was 100% just bureaucratic fuckery, and they decided to destroy their own company to prove a point. What that point is, I don't know; but they sure proved it I guess.

It's still amazing to me how this whole thing went down. I've never seen a company just, absolutely out of the blue, suddenly decide to launch four-prong nuclear PR attack against itself. At every junction of this, they made the worst possible decision. If this was in a movie, I would roll my eyes at how poorly written and unrealistic the scenario was. A wireless keyboard thrown into a hamster cage would produce better PR results than what Nijisanji's PR team has chosen to do in the last few weeks. If I could quantum leap into different universes, I could spend an eternity and never find one in wich a series of PR decisions could be as bad as the ones made in this universe. Against all odds, we are somehow living in the one singular universe wherein all of Nijisanji's decisions are quantum entangled back through time to the worst possible outcomes.

The leaked manager screenshots in the PR nuclear bomb that was the black box stream had the manager saying that because the video included graduated members, they would need more time for confirmation. Since other livers have released songs with graduated members in them, one even just a few fucking days ago, it's clearly something that can be approved - but wasn't, for Selen, for whatever reason. Especially since the artwork and storyboards for the video MUST have been shown earlier for approval, and likely have been ready for weeks if not months.

So, the current theory is that this rule might exist, but someone clearly denied Selen's usage of it for less-than-pure reasons - or this rule was made up wholesale just to fuck with her. Either one is equally likely.

What if they don't have a way to reach a graduated liver? And again, they own the fuck IP. How does it make sense that while the liver plays that character he doesn't own any part of it, but once they no longer play it they do? They pose more threat to Nijisanji graduated while owning the IP. And even if litigation is an option, I'm not sure the legal battle regarding the autistic laws regarding reputation and stuff surrounding Japanese IPs is worth it; they could take all of a liver's money, but that will likey not cover the Lawyer's bill, or return the money of investors as they see Nijisanji deal with another drama that causes the stock to drop.

So if it dips below it stands to reason whoever was trying to keep it above will now start to bail asap before it goes any lower until it meets the next resistance line. If there is no further resistance line then the stock is essentially in freefall and will go so low the corpo gets delisted from the stock exchange meaning they are back to a private corpo which is basically a death sentence for a public corpo with the CEO having to make court appearances and stuff to basically convinced everyone he didn't crash the company on purpose.

Also, here’s a long (but good) summary:

It's long and complicated and requires a bit of speculation but given the press around Niji stocks, Selen's termination and Niji's overall actions as a business in February it's not too surprising.

• Calling Selen's termination negligible was at a glance aimed at mitigating the impact firing their biggest talent in EN would have on the markets, there was simultaneously a bit of a push by analysts around the claim that Selen only contributed 3% of NijiEN's income, which in turn is only around 17% of AnyColor's income. A fair few people may well have bought this narrative initially, but on closer inspection the whole thing falls apart as an obvious facade. Reputation damage is the obvious factor being downplayed here, but there's also the fact that things like merch sales weren't included in the 3% figure. More problematically is that even if you believe these claims then their top performing talent only making them 3% looks really bad and strongly implies the company is mismanaging their assets. in short, their attempts at mitigating the impact of firing Selen may have slowed down the response by the markets but people are starting to realise what it actually means
• February is a big month for many streamers especially around Valentines day. Where many will have expected a significant bump up from the norm, instead many people in NijiEN weren't streaming at all for an extended period, this in tandem with losing both Selen and Pomu, some of their biggest talents, in a very short period. Getting a large slump when you expect the opposite is going to spook the markets almost every time.
• There has been little to no new merch released around this time either, and the merch they did release seems to have done really poorly (gee, wonder why?) and this is one of their biggest money makers. Another slump.
• Investors and markets caught on to the situation at Nijisanji/AnyColor. Them having recently made a fairly significant stock buyback instead of investing in new projects only for that money to vanish almost overnight is going to spook the markets. When a company has a slump you usually expect this to be due to investments which are set to pay off at a later time or for the company to have some recovery plan. Nijisanji's current strategy on the other hand lacks future prospects and doesn't seem to have much of a strategy either, they're going to have to wait out the bad PR and the markets would have to just trust that, which isn't great
• Often when a company has a slump, new investors can try to capitalise on the lower stock price, anticipating a rebound, this plays into the previous point a bit but Nijisanji's bad reputation and recent actions are likely to scare away such opportunistic investments.
• It's difficult to overstate how bad the impact on NijiEN's performance has been. While on the surface it looks like only a small percentage of subscribers and such have dropped off, this was company wide and these were going to be mostly active viewers, this is the audience that is most likely to buy memberships, merch, superchats etc. These are your main source of income and they left in a way that makes them very unlikely to return, markets looking closely at the situation will realise that a quick recovery is very unlikely and it could well be months or even years before NijiEN is back to pre-2024 performance. Especially with the market itself being fairly saturated.
• for NijiEN to make a financial recovery it would need to start seeing an increase in subscriber counts again, but even with the numbers going back up these will take time to develop into the kind of audience that is willing to buy merch etc. Most viewers will be around for a while before committing anything financially to a performer. They lost months, if not years, of loyal customers in the span of about 10 days. There is no easy or quick way back for them, especially with new gens barely being promoted and thus failing to gain much traction, which brings us to:
• Niji's new gens compared to their competition in Hololive or Vshojo have had a... well... almost negligible impact on the scene, can't even blame the talents for it either as it's mostly been Niji's lack of promotion and development. No major collabs or anything to draw people in, and future prospects look bleak as some of their most popular talents have left and a fair few of the ones that are left are currently in the middle of the PR sinkhole they created.
• TL;DR: Markets are waking up to how bad things truly are for Nijisanji, Nijisanji picked the worst month to start trouble, Nijisanji's future prospects look incredibly grim in the short term and rather mediocre in the long term even optimistically speaking

Generally speaking, companies like these are funded by venture capitalists, who give them their starting funds in exchange for shares in the company. If the company is smart, as cover and anycolor both seem to be in this regard, those venture capitalist will not own a controlling stock or dividend stock, meaning that the only way for those venture captialists to see a return on their investment is to have the company go public so they can cash out their stock on the market.

So yes, going public eventually is pretty much a precondition of receiving VC funding in the first place, and they would be faced with immense pressure for them to go public eventually so the VCs can cash out. Going public also allows them to raise funds for projects alot easier, as they can simply sell a portion of their stock on the open market if they need a cash infusion, which is what cover did to raise funds for the studio.

The JP Vtuber market is oversaturated, NijiJP is a big part of that, since they're huge.
With it gone you'd have a lot of big indies popping up suddenly.
A lot of new hires from various smaller JP corpos.
New JP corpos popping up trying to get the scraps.
I think the bigger the corpo already is, the less benefit you would get. Hololive for example would certainly see gains across the board, but nothing massive.
If they play their cards right small existing corpos could benefit greatly. Like Phase Connect's new JP gen.

There are so many fairly big JP members that some are bound to gain some degree of success as indies, retaining enough of their previous fanbases that they can continue vtubing as a job even as indies.
Others would show up in other corpos, probably the small ones that can pick them up quickly.

Cover PP&E as of March 31: About ¥1.9 billion/$13.2 million
Cover Capex spending as of March 31: ¥1.46 billion/$10.1 million.

I used OANDA's currency converter for anyone who cares. Cover also has huge expenditures on software intangibles, which I think are HoloEarth investments.

It really opens the eye to how much Anycolor just hoards the money like a dragon.
Cover has 87 talents, this means 16 million jpy reinvested per talent. 116.1 thousand usd.

Two things. Stock buyback forces price of stocks to go up which hopefully attracts more investors. You also own a larger portion of your own company which you can sell off at a higher price later if you need cash. So in Cover's case they sold some stocks to get cash for their new studio. Obviously the investors are gonna want to sell at higher than purchase prices so months or years later Cover could buy back those same stocks and as long as the price stays stable or goes up the corpo isn't really losing anything. The one caveat is if said investors are actually playing the long game to become majority shareholders in which case your fucked. But overall stock buybacks are never a good move for the corpo. It's great for investors since they get to cash out a higer return, but stock buybacks inherently bake in their collapse since if the company financials and its stocks were actually healthy there wouldn't be a need for stock buybacks in the first place other than to prevent outsiders from meddlingin company stuff.

If the stock starts going down too much, shareholders start to panic and start selling, which makes them go down more, it starts a chain reaction
Companies that dont pay dividends to shareholders are especially vulnerable in this area, the stock value is all the shareholders have

why spend money on management or tard wrangling when you make the investors happier with better profit margins.
as another anon posted earlier… cover spends 50 times more on each of their talents compared to Anycolor (110k USD to 2k USD).
they’re betting on their investors to be retarded enough to ignore the fire overseas and pretending it’s “business as usual.”

You actually need people who want to buy your stocks to sell them.
So if you want to get rid of your stocks, you price them at 3200 and try to sell, no one buys.
You drop the price to 3190, no one buys.
Drop to 3180, no one buys.
This keeps happening until the price crashes through the floor if absolutely no one buys.
Everyone can see what the price of the stock last sold at.
So if Anycolor buys it, then you can see "aha, someone just bought the shares at this price, there's a much better chance of this being the 'real' price."
By doing that you can stem the bleeding.

I mean, where do you think NFTs got the idea from?
The difference is that NFTs are worth fuck-all outside of the similarities in their 'economy' to the stock market.
On the other hand, if you hold shares in a company and it pays out dividends, it is legally bound to pay you dividends in proportion to the amount of stocks you hold. If a company enters bankruptcy, there is a class-action lawsuit, or any other similar things, stocks also may grant you legal standing to secure money from the company.

Both companies sold themselves as tech companies so the expectation is that in exchange for not being a blue chip stock and paying dividends, the expectation is that the companies need to grow and expand their businesses at tech levels. The problem is that growth is flatlining or in Anycolor's case, going negative as things have gone terribly wrong there so valuation and stock price will decrease. Cover is still fine but the fundamental issue remains so it will run into the same problems eventually on the financial side.

>> No.69737628

>>69737418
Cover's plan as laid out in their recent document is that holoEarth will allow them to explode in growth once launched, because videogames = gigantic industry - or at least that's the simplistic narrative they need to convey to shareholders with zero grounding in the industry. Personally I am extremely sceptical, but that's what they claim they're going for.

Yes and that is most likely the thing that will get them into trouble with investors and set back the company. It's supposed to be launching this year and we've heard crickets on it so I don't think things are looking too hot there. Investors don't care for now but they will be hounded by questions once results don't materialize. It's legitimately the only real downside to Cover at the moment anyone can actually point to because you don't know the lengths to what Cover would tell their talents to do to prop Holoearth up which can negatively impact all the talents there. Additionally, if they have to burn more cash there, there's less to actually reinvest to the talents themselves. So we'll just have to see what happens.

Anon, Cover isn't like Apple techwise in either execution or product rollout. They don't have the benefit of the doubt here or a track record to say they can pull this off, especially when you look at the tech they have been using with their talents and how they should be ahead in with model rigging, facial tracking and etc. Indie solutions like Vtube Studio, VSeeFace and Vnyan blow them out of the water in those aspects or any other corporate solution.
