It's not just that, people thinking they can't see that relationships can be like that are missing the point. They just didn't want a movie like that. Fuwawa kept saying "it didn't make me feel fluffy". They're not saying it wasn't realistic enough, they just think "romance movie = positive, awww, I wish that was me".
Something not being romance (in their particular definition) doesn't mean it's bad. They also thought it was bad, but it went from 8/100 to 40/100 when they don't evaluate it under that perspective.

if anything i'd say its more like its showing how relationships will try and do short-term fixes to their problems
kissing, making out and all that love despite fighting afterwards is just a short-term fix to whats the actual root of their problem as people , and i think the actual root of their problem gets a bit addressed towards the end where noah straight up asks allie what she wants to be - and as we see it eventually lead to them now being old, married and with a bunch of kids
