This is really dependent on your type of content. The type of people who watch video essays are generally not the same people who watch livestreams. Good content is content that is parasocial in it's nature. It's not a surprise that ASMR YouTubers so frequently becomes Vtubers because ASMR lends itself to parasocialism especially stuff like roleplays. People already feel a connection to you because it's intimate and want to go out and watch you.
