But Selen pocketing the money doesn't add up. Other artists have commented acknowledging Selen paid them out of pocket. Presumably, a bank transfer between the two exists. This absolves Selen of guilt and brings us back to the question: where did the money go?

It's certainly possible management just refused the project unless she funded it herself, but this still feels worth investigating. It's easily within the realm of possibility to ask Nijisanji to make a statement on if it's true that they refused funding for this project, but greenlit Selen funding the project herself. If they deny and say they did pay Selen, this won't add up with bank transfers that 3rd parties seem willing to show. If they confirm, then at the very least, Nijisanji will still get an ass-beating for ever subjecting their talents to conditions such as this.

Wasn't there a separate tweet from another artist stating Selen had to pay them out of pocket for a debt Niji owed? Where's that? It might be interesting to grab someone who speaks moonspeak and have them forward it to NijiJP. It doesn't add up that Niji never officially acknowledged or responded to that tweet, nor did Niji's debt money ever find it's way back to Selen.

In my company (US HQ multi-bullion MNC), company events are not allowed to give out cash prizes. The main reason for this is tax/legal mumbo jumbo (the taxmen will have to file a lot of paperwork and its judged to be not worth it). Plus its gonna be a giant headache if any expat wins as they will have to file for them in their home country.
Even during our year-end company dinner, only voucher prizes are allowed (not cash so there is a difference). And then even so, after receiving our voucher prize we need to physically sign off a piece of paper (again for tax mumbo jumbo).
I'm sharing this as there may be a legit reason that no one at niji wants to deal with Selen's cash prizes as it can be a really complicated issue esp when the winners can come from anywhere in the world.
In my opinion, the 24 hr window for voicepack is the more glaring issue. Its just too small of a time window to make sense and it makes management seem incompetent.

I don't think there's enough evidence to be able to discuss it at length. Even circumstantual evidence would be difficult to substantiate any conversation other than "this project could've potentially had funds embezzled".

That said, I think it's smarter to pursue the opportunity control that might have happened. Stuff like how Elira has so many more merch opportunities than Lazulight is easy to prove and can be discussed in the context of whether it makes sense for that liver to have the merch opportunity over any other liver (for theme packs, for example).

I stopped watching nijien a long time ago, but there's something else I remember from a couple of years ago that I just want to throw out there.
In Nijisanji, when you get to 50k subs, you get a 2nd outfit for your model, paid for by the company. In JP, the livers are allowed to design it to be anything they want (within common-sense reason, of course). For EN, they changed it up slightly, in that each wave would have a general "theme" that they share, but the liver could still design and customize an outfit as long it was still in-theme.
For Lazulight's 50k outfits, the theme they got was "New Years Kimono" (because they were unveiled in January 2022). So, the livers worked with their mamas to design outfits that would fit that theme, with the liver being able to make changes/customizations that they want... or well, that's what was supposed to be the case.
Elira and Finana chose to be royalty, with fancy dresses and tiaras, and they both talked about working with their mamas and some of the customization choices that they made on their outfits. Meanwhile, Pomu wasn't made royalty like the others - she was forced to be a maid. She talked about how she had no say in the matter, had no say in her maid outfit design, and had no say in any customization options. She said she wasn't able to work with her mama on it at all, which is super weird because Pomu's mama would very often be in her stream chat, so it's not like they wanted to keep distance or were unavailable to talk. What's worse is that Pomu LOVES maids, and would have loved to design her maid outfit in her own way, but she was denied that chance, and waiting to commission and 2nd maid outfit just so it could be a design that she wants, is a total waste of time/money.
I just don't get how management thought this was okay? You have two of the girls, with bright colorful fancy dresses, looking like royalty, talking about how much fun they had working with their mamas and customizing their outfits. Then you have the third girl, forced into a dull black & white maid outfit, who talked about having no say in anything. Like, who in management looked at that and thought "yup, not seeing anything wrong with these decisions here, no siree!"

tl;dr - Lazulight's first outfits, group outfit with a "kimono" theme. Elira and Finana got to be royalty and were allowed to customize their outfits. Theoretically you should control your own budget, but the way this typically works is that you have a company account and everything is managed by the company so they have all of the payment details. No corporation wants to be on the hook for whatever you spend your personal money on when it comes to mixing personal funds with company funds, that's a MASSIVE no no.
