If you're serious: Being indie seems to be better than working for NijiEN from a mental-health standpoint, as it's looking like even being in the branch is a legit cognitohazard.
Outside of that, male vtubing is a dead-end in the west unless you actually want a fanbase full of Fujos, Fags and Furries, and I'd say that grinding as an indie female isn't impossible, it's much harder now than it was during the pandemic days. I'd certainly advise against doing it full-time without testing the waters part-time.
As it stands, the indie vtuber scene is a legit mess with how many groomers are running around, and I cannot in good conscience suggest anyone jump into it without an iron will to fend off the worst scum.
