Entas album with a bunch of tracks by doujin music producers collab'ing with vsingers. First track sounds like liquid sex from the cross fade, featuring Akatsuki Luci working with [ahi:] who you might remember from doing Isolation with Hachi and Voxxing Day with Boogey.

Are you anons professional musicians here or something? Using terms like breathy voice, distinguishing ranges and things. I’m just not sure if it is something that is common knowledge or not, the best I can do is to tell if something sounds wrong or not that good…

I'm a STEM autist, so not in the least, but you listen to enough music for years and year, and you start to get a feel for what sounds off and what sounds good, and then you'll realize that there are terms for it that you can correlate with what you're hearing. Some of the less obvious read:Italian phrases aren't so clear, but something being breathy is pretty self explanatory when you think about it for a minute.

Yes I came from an extended family of local musicians but I can't convince any of them into vtubing because the ones that do sing idolize 3dpd fakeup cartels from kr and commie western brainwashing popsingers.

Would you guys say that becoming VSinger is going to become common among artists that would prefer to remain somewhat anonymous or will it remain niche thing?

>> No.6734993

>>6734657
Seems like the natural progression of the Japanese utaite culture, who were always fairly secretive about themselves, so I think there will be a large amount of indies just as there is now. On the corporate side, though, you really only have Kaf and friends, with everyone else just being an indie who got signed after they established themselves. The question is if that's going to expand in the future or not, and I think it will because suddenly you don't need to be photogenic and talented to be worth investing in, but merely talented which opens up a massive recruiting pool.

Imagine if vsingers were a thing back when Susan Boyle made her famous audition and no one ever saw her face. While she might not have gotten the massive gap moe attention she did, it shows how many talented people could make it in the music industry if they didn't have to look the part. Add on the benefit that suddenly you can be a famous musician and still be able to walk into a burger joint without anyone but your most diehard fans recognizing you, and there being an implicit stigma about saying anything, and I think we'll likely see more from the corporate side as well in the future.

It'll definitely be an attractive option for budding music artists who want to maintain a degree of anonymity. Two artists that pop up in my mind are Aimer and ClariS and how they hid their faces for years before unmasking; if the current VSinger meta was present when they debuted, I could imagine they would have considered it.

Overall, I'd say it'll remain as niche as the VTuber industry in general. It's just gonna be a wait-and-see sort of thing; we'll see in a decade how far the current form of virtual entertainers will progress.

From what I remember in an interview she did after her face reveal, she said something along the lines of wanting to be judged by her music and not wanting her appearance to be a factor in that judging process.

Doughmee - Ultraluminary isn't a song I know, but from what I heard it's probably not the best audition song since as she sung it, there wasn't much to really flex on vocally. She didn't sound super great when she went high, except for that one last bit right before the end, and she was going fucking ham on the vibrato which is kind of the hallmark of an amateur singer who isn't capable of just staying on note. I didn't listen to the second song, though.

Caroline - Better song selection since the Mononoke showed off her range, but she shouldn't have had such heavy echo on for it, since that may be how the song itself sounds but it hides her voice quite a bit, which is why it's good for casual karaoke but not for auditions. Seems much more comfortable with her range, though the transition between notes isn't as clean as I'd like, and something sounds off when she goes up high which I think is her being short but I'm not 100% sure. The second song is much better suited to her smooth voice, but it's not one that allows much vocal flexing beyond the uh-uh-oh part.

Kirispica - Interesting approach to do something she wrote herself. I like creativity of it, and it means that she can tailor it to her singing voice, but it also means she fell into the overusing vibrato trap since it's how you make such a basic composition interesting. Her talking voice, and a lesser extent her singing voice, are kind of nasally in a 'uwu' sense, and it shows tries to show off her range during the last section, since it sounds like she's not hitting the right note whenever she tries to hold a single note those couple of times past 4:21 instead of 'cheating' with heavy vibrato.

None of them are bad, mind you, but there is a reason that when you audition for a play, you don't pick your favorite monologue, you pick one that's got a wide range of emotion and that really shows off how skilled you are. I will say that compared to them, IRyS was a better choice from a singing perspective, and only one of them has any real streaming experience which is also clearly something Hololive values.

Of course, checking through to see if they had any, I see Caroline has Defying Gravity which is a much better song to gauge skill on, and while she's not bad, she's not amazing either. Not able to hit the Idina note at the end, very shrill when she goes high, and relies very heavily on vibrato to hide the fact that she can't hold a high note. Maybe she could clean it up with more takes, but I doubt it.

While I agree those auditions were prolly worse than Nami, Nami herself isn't the best singer if u compare her to some gems that get talked about here often. She's very bland/uninspiring/lacking creativity but is passable when it comes to just singing the song in a normal way. The Vsinger position in Holo is actually more important to Cover than any reg Gen cus Cover knows it's an irreplaceable position. Coco and any other Holo is replaceable, but do u think fans would accept an Azki replacement when she is the only Vsinger? Cover chose Nami cus she won't cause a commotion/bilingual/lives in jp which means they can talk to her directly and build a strong relationship with her and work in their own studios for original songs. If anything Cover was lucky Nami auditioned cus there weren't really any other girls that checked everything off for Cover. You could almost say singing was secondary compared to choosing a girl that was easy to work with.

I don't mean to talk about those audition videos, but this phrase here actually describes my problem with Irys perfectly. She just doesn't wow me with her high notes, even though her pitch control is on point. Other people say the gentleness is an acquired taste, but for me her lack of strong head voice robs songs of their emotional punches especially during climaxes, and for casual viewers they feel her voice is "boring".

Comparing Irys with Hachi on I Beg You and Homura, I'd always pick Hachi.

IRyS has the problem of becoming very nasally when she's singing anything in the top half of her range, which isn't particularly pleasant to listen to if you've got Western sensibilities. The transition from smooth lower tones to the not so nice higher is just not something that I enjoy. Maybe it's a Japanese thing, since they do have all the enka traditions where you're supposed to sound like you're singing through your nose and that's not viewed as a meme, so it could just be cultural differences, I suppose. Of course, the fact that all the really popular Japanese singers don't do it suggests otherwise, but maybe it's not as much of a flagrant sin as it would be in the Western music scene.

I don't have a particular problem with the gentleness of her voice, though it does limit which songs she's going to be suited for, but AZKi has the same thing where her take on Usseewa during karaoke was supposed to be angry by her own admission, and she was surprised that everyone called it cute. Of course, she then showed what she thought a cute Usseewa would actually sound like and it was pure cotton candy, but her original version still lacks any sort of anger or bite which is what the song's written for.

Why do u think vocaloids are massively popular? Vocaloids are pretty different, though? They allow you to have vocals in a song that you can't sing yourself, without having to have back and forths with an actual singer who you're collaborating with. They get used by people who produce music, not the same type of people who'd be behind a vsinger avatar, except for very rare combinations like Midi who both produces music and sings on the tracks, but she also doesn't use vocaloids as far as I remember.

NTA, and off-topic, but most vocaloid songs, with the original miku voice, really filter me hard. Like they don't spend the effort making the voice sound more natural like a human.

This is probably one of the only vocaloid songs that actually sound somewhat human. And it's made by a literal who, 13 years ago. If there were more miku songs like this, maybe I'd like the whole thing more.

I'm already subbed to the Admiral, since I liked both her studio music and when she finally did a singing stream she showed it wasn't just production magic. I'm interested in what she's going to do in the future, but while she could use some polish on the upper edge of her range, either committing to the falsetto or not instead of what sounds like a half measure I think, she's very good and pleasant to listen to regardless. In particular, I liked her Roki from the debut karaoke since it shows that she's both good at moving from note to note and has some power behind her voice, even if her mic couldn't handle it.

Parica is also pretty good, but has the somewhat rare problem from what I've heard of Japanese singers where her low end is her problem far more then her high end. The start of 'For the First Time in Forever' is a bit rough, but once she gets to the harder parts of the song, she does great. Maybe a result of a limited range and singing it in lower key then she should so that she can reach the high notes? Either way, she's also very good and I'm a sucker for Disney and show songs, so I hope she does more. She does get a little shrill on the held highest notes, so she might want to have some mild vibrato on it to help with that but she doesn't abuse it which I personally prefer over overusing. Her mic also is just not up to the task of her singing, which is unfortunate and I think makes her sound worse then she is, but she's got some great power in her voice when she does Let It Go. I'd to hear her sing something in the studio with a proper recording and mix before I judge her, but she's not bad.

Neither of them are going to touch the pinnacles of singing that get talked about here, but I'd happily listen to them sing if I like the set list. I don't think either is quite native pronunciation, though. You can hear Paricia has the native Japanese accent when she's doing Love is an Open Door but it's not overpowering, while the Admiral has a pretty strong accent on How Far I'll Go.

My personal favorites also include MiMi, Edo Lena, Himitsu Kano, CocoTsuki, Akatsuki Luci, and Ci from Boogey Voxx, though some of those have a very distinctive voices that only suit them to some songs, which isn't a bad thing. I also really like people who're both singer/songwriters rather then just performers, which may bias my personal tastes. Vocaloids are gateway for unknown producer to get known, which in turn lets uitate/vsinger to get well known by covering or collaborating with said producer. One example would be Kairiki Bear where he got a lot of song commision for vsinger.

I like her voice, it reminds me of the prototypical lounge-singer in a red dress holding cigarette, in a good way. She misses a few notes, but it doesn't detract from the performance and karaoke is karaoke so it'll happen. The song isn't overly hard, but she does a good job with it, though she does lean pretty heavily into the vibrato for most parts but she doesn't need to based on a couple of notes she holds so I guess it's a stylistic thing to help make a simple composition more interesting, and probably mimics the style of the original recording. Really good, though if it's the song selection or if she's actually talented enough to do it for others, I can't tell.

Excellent in studio recordings, where they can rival original songs. Kyou's Yoru ni Kakeru is one such song. Leona is my go-to for pop ballads. I listen to Leona's Christmas Song, Wherever you are and Dry Flower like daily. She is also my hidden oshi because she has a chill vibe outside her singing, and is very responsive to foreign fans in chat. She clearly understands enough conversational English (perhaps even more than Uto).
https://youtu.be/81dezsUC3nc

Never saw Kyou do live karaokes. Leona's live karaokes are usually scuffed, as she still needs to work on her pitch control, but they show how unique her voice is, though. Like her cover of Country Roads, though ill-practiced (she learned it just a day before), and the EN pronunciation is wack, sounds really unique. A studio recording where they can fix her errors would make it perfect.

She also covered Dry Flower. Not bad. It has its own feel to it. I still prefer Leona's cover and Hachi's live version because of their vibrato, but it's still nice.

They have the capital to do that, but it doesn't always translate to global popularity. Holofans are less likely to watch 50 new vtuber singers just because they are under Sony even if they have all the marketing schemes they've put out. What I predict is that they'll kill the music side of niji.

I can't say that I have the definitive opinion, considering that there are only so many hours in the day and I can't listen to everyone, but I really enjoy Watame's Fevers even if she's not always the most skilled because of her very unique set lists, and her originals are great because of how well they suit her bubbly voice. I also listen to Sui, Toko, Rene, and Kinrenka on occasion, though Rene is more because I love her husky voice and choices in songs then because she's a knock out singer. Looking back at my list, I feel like an idiot for not mentioning Kotone and MaiR as two more who're very good. I also like some of Fuji Ao's stuff since she's clearly talented, and she sits somewhere in the middle of a vsinger and vtuber these days with how many games she streams, which isn't a bad thing. Ririsya also is in that middle ground, and I like her unique sound on some of her originals with how hip-hop inspired they are. Don't assume my list is anywhere near definitive, though.

If you haven't checked out to Chima yet, I would definitely recommend her as one of the strongest singers in the scene.

She's good, added to my ever mounting backlog. Rene is best when she's doing songs that sit somewhere between rap and singing, since she's actually pretty good at spitting. Her collabs with Monster Matez show that she can keep up with the big boys, and I fucking love her verse on the original one they did. You can probably safely ignore most of her older covers since she went too hard on the autotune, I feel like, but she's gotten more confident in her voice lately and doesn't hide behind post production work anymore. The self duet on her Roki arrange with her husky voice and her loli voice was pretty neat from that time period, though, and so was her take on Villain.

I very much doubt they would be different or better than penguin's karaoke. Generally, the most recent live is the best indication of their skills.
I wonder why she was even hired. Even a casual observer knows that she will be compared with Gura, especially when she herself lists singing as her specialty. She has almost no head voice to speak of, and her breath is mediocre. It's fine for "cute" idol singing only. Niji missed a big opportunity with this hire. Now they have no answer to Gura's singing. Selen can compensate with her predator Apex skills, but not everyone loves that game.
