I think they're gradually breaking free from this. The concern when NijiEN wave 2 debuted was that they'd cannibalize wave 1's views, but even if they stream over each other now they all still pull 1~2k viewers each. When IRyS debuted, all of the NijiENs doing the spicy noodle challenge were still able to keep above 1k viewers. Doesn't sound like a lot, but I think they are gaining their own fanbase.
