I for one miss tank controls and heavy inventory management
though cumbersome at times, it really contributed to the atmosphere that some older games were going for at times. Lining up and making a jump in tomb raider isn't as satisfying now.

Tank controls are ass and only worked because of fixed camera angles. Inventory management is a solid logic puzzle mechanic that does add to the tension naturally instead of artificially.

You need to up the difficulty if you're a veteran, but REmake with updated controls or RE2R both do fine with the more modern controls. Especially when new players who are not familiar with RE play the game for the first time.

So the solution is keep drops at a relatively high rate but limit their capacity actually carry those drops
That way the player has more than enough ammo/healing items/etc to actually make progress but at the same time still feels the pressure of having to ration their items, even if under the hood the pressure is entirely artificial
