Anyone have any ideas for a magic system based around roses? I'm currently building a world around Rosemi Lovelock, one in which Rosemi is considered a diety and roses are sacred.
I've been trying to come up with a magic system that incorporates magic circles and whatnot, but no ideas are sticking. If anyone has resources or ideas, I'd appreciate it
Cheers

What, like growing roses in special soil that enriches them somehow so they can then be harvested for their petals which then have their pigments extracted for magical red paint?

>Specifically roses as in red roses or roses as in the flower/different symbology of a rose?
More along the symbology. Since her symbol is a rose and all I've been thinking of ways to somehow incorporate the symbology of them in magic rituals. The closest I got was using a unicursal hexagram enclosed in a circle, with altars placed at each point for religious ceremonies and rituals, but I just feel like there's gotta be a better way.

>>66468247
>What, like growing roses in special soil that enriches them somehow so they can then be harvested for their petals which then have their pigments extracted for magical red paint?
I've already figured that bit out-- I have a rose purification ritual in which Roses become purified using Rosemi's divine energy. This process gives the rose a glass-like appearance, and the petals can be ground into a substance called Aetherflux, which is used in healing medicine and other medicinal applications.

Besides the symbology of the petals and flowers themselves, there's probably a lot of fun to be had with the thorns as well. It's featured prominently in Rosemi's latest outfit with that cool halo of thorns too. Thorns have connotations for danger and offense, but also a connotation for something more protective/defensive.
Maybe the magic could use rose-shaped staves as a focus instead of a 2D drawn symbol? You also have the option of getting some blood magic going with magicians poking themselves with rose thorns and such, everyone loves a nice blood sacrifice.

Talk about a difference in scale with the other two.
By the way, here's the one I'm working with. I just draw the border in the Borders layer (including water to get a full surround), magic wand it and bucket fill it in the Nation Color layer (making sure the color's is somewhat transparent, depending on how intense the color is). Color is of course just some temporary thing I added as an example, I think nations should get to decide themselves what they'd like so long as it's different enough from bordering nations

Your ideas sound good! Here are my thoughts on them (though I don’t see myself being anything more than just another contributor so you’re free to write about them regardless of my opinions)
>since its vnug + kr we could split it to be like IRL north and south korea.
I like the idea of the split being split ()! I don’t know if I’ll write much about the /kr/ side of things though since I don’t watch them, and I think the anon who wrote about /kr/ in the old setting isn’t available anymore
>Land is known for excellent pairuzi brothels
>Older women are preferred but also a sizeable amount of loli cunny with enough fertile eggs to keep the population increasing
It’s not really my thing but you’re free to write about them
>Some small area that is fucking amazing at alchemy for Meeta
I like it! Back in the old setting I had /vnug/ being good at crafting. I don’t know if that should still hold true here but I enjoy the idea of having magical items being part of the mundane life
>possible prefectures or smaller areas for each gen/vtuber with its own gimmick or just generalize it idk
I don’t know if we should have the land divided by gen. Most of them share a good chunk of their fans and a new gen is coming soon (which may or may not be the last for now) so I think it’d be better to not divide the land that way for futureproving reasons
>Liora worshippers are constantly preaching end of the world cuz doomposting is a thing
>Suri secret cult/cabal cuz, well you already know
Part of me don’t wanna write about the more negative aspects of the split but I guess they’re now part of the culture. I do think about incorporating part of Liora’s past stuff into the mythology (which began when I was still writing for space /vnug/) and it’s kinda funny to have it be an unironic UFO cult
>Those who like Serafi have either allies of /pcg/ or are hated for bringing them to our thread. Could be interesting war scenario of fighting back pippa tourists
I don’t watch Serafi a lot so I don’t know much about it. I think we might want to hold off mentioning other splits until they’re actually here though
>spoiler
I agree ignoring that’s for the best
>Zeli slime a secret and/or exclusive ingredient for magic shit or whatever the fuck
I like cultivating unusual lifeforms! I feel Zeli slime should embody some aspects of Zeli’s lore and/or fans but I don’t watch her enough to know how to do so

Also where do you think /vnug/land should be at? We’ve done forest in the old setting and I’m having brain worms for a mountain/subterranean culture but at the same time I know it’s not based on any innate lore of V&U and forest is probably more pleasant and hospitable (but then again I don’t know if /vnug/ is really that nowadays)

>> No.66533735

nah, for berlin wall vibes you need a bit different kind of setup

but /choc/ and /pink/ are kinda friendly rival threads at this point and with their "color war" being a thing on board events like divegrass and LotB, it would be a missed opportunity and dishonor to the threads to not also feature it in some way in Vitubia or whatever we might call the new world

Or maybe magic is found in blood wait that's chuubanite infused blood magic

So I’ve picked up two other places where /vnug/ could be at!
>A
Suggested by >>66516809 which matches the split split aesthetics and should have a climate pretty similar to Korea but doesn’t have many mountains
>B
Next to /VRe/ which is our friend! The climate should be hot and dry in the lowland but the highland should provide all sorts of climates. Most likely to grow tea out of all the options
>C
Next to /morig/ which is also our friend! The climate is similar to B but probably drier since it’s more isolated from the sea. We’re less likely to have other neighbors who interact with us a lot though

I am pretty curious how the surrounded ocean north of the largest continent affects climates, I guess the closest analogue would be the Mediterranean, but it's way bigger. Big enough for oceanic circulation to occur? I wonder. There's also those enormous lakes that are more sea-sized, not sure what their deal is. I think their best analogue would be the Caspian, though there's more of them. Apparently there were many more inland seas on Earth earlier in its history, but over time those either evaporated or connected to the world ocean through erosion, so maybe this world is at that earlier stage. How saline/fresh those are would depend on how much precipitation there is in their drainage basins I think.

vDriver was originally conceptualized as a system for whatever setting /vtwbg/ was working on previously. The exact power source was intentionally kept vague because it's easier to design a game if you don't have too many lore restrictions, but when /vtwbg/ collapsed and /log/ was the main thread, I wrote some basic lore about how it was fueled by passion and willpower in the Driver, calling upon "echoes" from a vaguely-defined "digital sea". Chuubas themselves were loosely defined as being in the digital sea, leaving chuubas either a relic of some bygone era that was largely inaccessible, or acknowledged as some extradimensional beings, akin to the Japanese concept of lesser kami.

Anyway, this is all a lot of words to say "dude, it ain't deep, but you can pretend it is".

Most of those lakes are surrounded by mountains so I don’t think they’ll get much rain and instead get their water from the glaciers, but they look pretty big so I think they won’t be too salty! So more like Caspian Sea and maybe ancient lakes when the Sahara was green, and less like the Great Salt Lake

Oh right glaciers are a thing, they slipped past me since those mountains aren't too far from the equator, but with enough elevation you'll get them even in the tropics, as in the Himalayas. Those mountainous plateaus are much larger than anything in our Earth so that could be a shit-ton of glacier meltwater. Kinda fun to think there could be something as big as the Barnes ice cap but basically on the equator, if those mountains are tall enough.

hey guys, paragraphs here. saw /vtwbg/ was up again sometime ago today and eventually decided to look at it just to see how things were. idk too much about the current situation, but the way i set the magic system up before, anything should be possible with enough thought and creativity. with that said, seeing how you guys always ended up complaining about how much i cared whether or not things fit within that system, and seeing as how you are still mentioning it as a concern even now, i figured i would make at least one more contribution to the idea’s application. it's more of an excuse really, for both of us, since it'll excuse anything you do, even if you don't care to participate in the autism, and give me an excuse to not worry as much about the internal consistency or continuity of the system, even as i pass the torch. when last i was around, the system was basically nuclear/quantum physics and computers+conceptual realm autism. assuming all is more or less the same, it's theoretically possible to have a contextual chuubanite magic system where actions are automatically interpreted within the conceptual realm, instead of requiring any precise knowledge of how it works. basically, think of it as chuubanite with a pre-built ai and interpreter. activating the magic and getting whatever random effect that works for your story would be to identify where the data the interpreter is interpreting is coming from, and how any given effect works in isolation. the interpreter would do all the work of figuring out what is relevant data, figuring out what the problem is, and executing a solution. as long as the core concept behind the interpreter's ai doesn't radically change, the effect wouldn't be too maladaptive, but it would likely still be outside of the user’s control, similar to how magic sometimes works in harry potter. the way it would work is that basically all possible outputs would be reduced to some number of possible syntax, for extreme cases, let's assume 1, and all inputs would be reduced to a bunch of on/off switches representing the raw, undeciphered data that the interpreter would then be tasked with contextualizing. it would then give context to whatever syntax was used according to it’s interpretation of the data. the balancing factor of this would be that deliberate effects that utilize concepts that are used in that interaction become impossible to use independently, so if you want the chuubanite to be able to create a certain effect every time with no chance of the interpreter misinterpreting things, then you'd have to use another kind of chuubanite, or figure out another method of doing so. still, depending on how the interpreter does things, it might be fine regardless. basically, think of people who ask chat gpt to write some code in some interpreter-heavy programming language. with the right ai, and the right interpreter, all you need to do is vaguely communicate your intention, and some solution will be generated according to some unknown black box. it might be complete gibberish, but if the output is satisfactory, it doesn't really matter. the more control the ai and interpreter has, the more likely miscommunication is, but that might not always be a bad thing, as the interpreter might come out with something even better. as a result, people with no knowledge of how chuubanite works can end up with a soft magic system that sort of just intuits their desires and creates some effect that, depending on the interpreter, may be closer or further away from their stated goals, which may be closer or further away from their actual goals. the cost of not bothering to engage in magic autism is the removal of magic autism, as the stronger the interpreter is, the less control the user has over it's effect. this, i believe, is a perfectly fair, and perfectly balanced consequence. the people using this option already decided not to engage in the autism, so not being able to engage in it was never a concern to begin with. furthermore, the fact that it isn't an all or nothing sort of thing gives some extra room for people to have some control while still giving the interpreter enough power to achieve the effects they want, even if they aren't as clearly defined as the alternative. those who put in the time to understand the magic system inside and out are rewarded with greater power and control over their magic system, whereas those who want a more laid back magic system that doesn't require as much effort to think about get what they want as well, and the only cost they have to pay is in the very thing they decided to discard by taking the option in the first place, the power that comes from the effort to understand the magic system enough to control it more precisely.

presumably, catalognauts would also have some difficulty dealing with the interpreter if the interpreter is inherent to the concept itself, instead of some mysterious factor in the conceptual realm, but they’d still have more control over it than the rest by adding their intelligence to the ai. i haven't spoken, or even thought of this subject in a really long time, least of all to you guys, so i wouldn't be surprised if i am missing something, or if i am communicating it poorly, so i'll probably be sticking around for a while, at least until the end of this thread, to answer any questions. even after the thread dies, you know where to find me, i'm sure, but ultimately, whether or not you decide to take my advice has always been your decision to make. i told you guys that so many times in so many different ways, yet you always ended up misunderstanding my intent even while i spelled it out, the impossibility of communication with some of you was the whole reason i left in the first place, but the effort me and the rest of the magic system autists have put into this system would really be wasted if you guys disregard it, so even if things go poorly as they tend to do, i hope you hear me out. it has always been only a matter of how creative and dedicated people are with the knowledge they have about how to manipulate the system to achieve whatever result they could possibly imagine wanting (with thread consent for balancing reasons, of course), so i really hope this convinces the rest of you who are on the fence that this system really does enable any kind of system you can think of. hell, i've just given you an excuse to not even bother with the thinking if you don't want to. if you aren't interested in the autistic stuff and just want a soft magic system, you can have a soft magic system at the cost of losing some ability to use your chuubanite in the autistic way. this is scalable, so if you want a medium system, you can have the interpreter only have power under certain contexts. this is fair, this is dynamic, this is a densely-packed ocean of potential waiting to be exploited, and no matter what system you may have in mind, this system can replicate it, and this system can improve upon it. i genuinely believe that this is the best magic systems i have ever heard of, and speaking as myself, even to this day i couldn't be more proud to have been apart of it's creation, and if you still haven't taken the opportunity to do so, please let this be the compelling case i hope it is, that to my knowledge, this system is uniquely ours. please don't disregard that just because you don't personally enjoy certain parts of it, you don't have to participate in them, but leave us chuubanite autists with the ability to theorize about these sorts of things. ty. also, sorry for the wall of text. bad habits, i guess.

so TLDR:
>magic is like writing psuedo code to an actual coder who has to make a code out of what they think you were trying to achieve, and the more precise you are the more control you have over the exact end product
did I understand you right? I mean it works, though the main issue as I understand it is that there were a fair amount of people who felt intimidated by the complexity of the system.
Personally, I'm more of a proponent of the idea of nations/societies having some sort of technological-magical scale in terms of what they're able to achieve if we're talking including trade-offs in some way.

more like magic can be reduced to pseudocode by using a few loopholes, the consequences of which include less direct control over it's outcome. the main point was to show that it made use of existing logic instead of pulling it out of thin air. the complexity has been entirely abstracted away with this option. you might not even care to thell them more about the complexity than the fact that it can get more complex if they are interested. balancing technology/magic was an idea we quickly disregarded back when the thread was just getting started. some threads have both magic, and technology themes, and ultimately, magic isn't sufficiently different from technology to justify only dabbling into one or the other. the tradeoffs just exist to prevent people from pulling stuff out of their ass just because they can, and also exist to incentivize dabbling into the autism when it is warranted. be it the intimidation, or the desire for a less precise magic system, with this acknowledgement in the system, we can more easily resolve any kinds of problems we might find. if they show interest, but feel intimidated, don't push the complexity on them. if they aren't sure if they could make their system would work, ask them if they'd be ok with using an interpreter to explain the effects until they feel more confident about things. if they want random effects, give them random effects. simple, elegant, yet still just as open and powerful.

>> No.66562054

>>66561681
now that i think of it, it's less pseudocode, and more like body language. you're basically giving the ai a bunch of random data, and hoping that the interpreter already has some way to translate it into pseudocode so that it can discover what it needs to do in that situation. chances are, chuubanite-infused neurons might be useful, but the ai already sort of resembles a neural network when set up like this.

The thing with chuubanite is, there would be literally 0 issue if everyone called their own magic a different name and stopped exclusively thinking of it in terms of a magic rock.
Even if we "adopted" a new form of magic, because of how chuubanite is written, it's always going togo back to "what does this look like in the form of a chuubanitrophic equation?", I think the best parallel I can put to it is Hyper Geometry in Delta Green, Hyper Geometry is just fucking magic but the kind of magic where scientists in a lab are using blood as a catalyst for a regenerating serum and the kind where a tribal shaman is sacrificing a child for a good harvest are the same magic. Both require ritual procedures but neither is going to recognize what the other is doing or even call it by the same name.

You literally don't even need to do this unless your magic is interacting with someone else because, again, Chuubanite is literally just everything magic.
I'm pretty sure the only reason that the /hag/ anon got into a chuubanite argument was because they wanted to make hundreds of women from a foreign nation infertile.
If your magic is intended for internal use than nobody gives a shit, its only when it has to interact with everyone else that people are asked, "so how does it work?" this has been how it always has been.

Yeah it's kinda hard to put together a reasonable climate without thinking about currents first. I can tell you that you'll be on the Af-Am-Aw-BSh-BWh (South to North) spectrum, likely closer to Af-Am-Aw-BSh since you're really quite close to the equator. Basically a gradient from jungle to savannah. That's assuming the planet rotates the same way as the Earth, if it turns the other way it'd be similar but wetter. + the global climate could be a bit warmer or cooler than the Earth.

I think this will give a better general idea of what the climates should be like, since the other one had all glaciers/tundra.
Keep in mind I'm a different anon and this isn't the proper map, as you can tell with islands and lakes being messed up.

My suggestion for the magic system is to have it be entirely decentralized with no unified system. Instead magic is granted by the Chuubas that people worship, and so the mechanics/rituals are entirely different between nations based on which chuuba(s) they worship.
In this way, we can have both soft and hard magic systems, which would vary depending on the perceived personality of the chuuba or group of chuubas that a nation worships.

NTA, but honestly even if the system is made to completely flexible, just having a system in place puts a certain expectation. I think that's part of the problem for people who don't want there to be a sci-fi aspect at all. What I was suggesting was more or less miracles bestowed by the Gods rather than a super secret sci-fi "magic". Those two ideas aren't really compatible except for specific nations with chuubas who are specifically sci-fi themed.

I just said in my post that the idea is compatible when it comes to chuubas who are sci-fi themed, so it's not like your lore would be invalidated, but it just wouldn't apply to every magic system, since a sci-fi magic system wouldn't make sense for most chuubas.
