i started watching vtubers—or, rather, the vtuber—in the first few months of kizuna ai. i vividly remember the feeling of seeing a new upload and waiting excitedly for someone to subtitle it. i found out about hololive from fubuki in 2018, occasionally watching her streams before there was anyone in chat translating, just relying on my extremely limited comprehension of japanese to understand a little of what was going on. over the next couple of years, i never really got into translated clips, though i did see a few from time to time. i preferred to just watch VODs and cobble together an understanding of the stream from listening and looking at the chat replay. i think it's an extremely interesting and important medium and i'm grateful i had the opportunity to witness so much of its early years, first-hand and contemporaneously.

my oshi is gura. i feel a connection to her that i've never felt with any other streamer or vtuber in any language. she will be remembered as exceptionally culturally significant for her work at hololive and i am proud to support her. suck my dick, faggot OP.

Honestly, I think this is the best way of putting it. Another comparison would be to say that she's the Reimu of Hololive. She's an incredibly easy to get into, surface level option. she isn't bad but its disappointing asking some one who their oshi is and having them answer "Gura"
