The reason hololive is popular in Japan is because it blew up overseas first, without Coco and Myth leading the way hololive would still be VSPO-tier at best in Japan, a distant 2nd compared to Nijisanji.

JP doesn't have the same dearth of content that EN has anon.
It's not the EN girls' fault, it's just the reality that EN management chose to chase homos and not bother with the branch's own development for 2 years.
Quite similar to now 2nd gen debuted, just thrown a phone and told how to stream.

JP have far more people active, so even if some of them aren't as interested, it doesn't matter to the audience, because those that DO organize these things will continue doing so - and they will keep getting content.
And at the end of the day, if the audience is getting fun content, they'll continue watching. They just weren't getting anything good from EN past Myth's 1st year.
Hell it's not like JP doesn't get criticism either, most of the hard workers are the senpais, most of the juniors aren't really doing as much as their senpai, but even then some of them are trying e.g. Botan's whole Menya thing, Legend of Polka, Lui and Lamy's alcohol related collabs etc. Most of these are small time compared to what their senpai have done or are doing, but they're still trying.
Nothing that FWMC have done so far is that "out there" - other than maybe the Christmas gift streams. All the content they've put out is stuff that any of the EN girls could've done already. They've had 3 years to do it too.
