AKB48. There are amazing girls (under idols' standards at least) among them, but most of them are either average, niched, or even bland for your common audiences. And it's not like they were popular from the beginning, they had to go through long periods with only 7 core fans and dropped as low as day(s?) with only two watching.

I don't think they're taking literally every graduate into Nijisanji. Rather, they're picking future Nijisanji members from the graduates, and I wouldn't be surprised if other JP agencies started doing the same.
If nothing else, I'm sure they'll teach them how to promote themselves, so that'll give them a leg up as indies too.

But then, how are those graduates going to compensate Niji? Let's say people could pay to be in that vtubing academy. What would they get from it if they're not going to Niji? Singing classes, a 101 on how to be a vtuber and how to entertain people online? Useless skills to have in life. Next, why would people want to become a vtuber when the whole market is saturated, they won't be earning an income the same as a Holo and a top niji even if it takes them years. It's easier for one to just learn business or IT in a uni and work for a company instead using their time. To me, if someone wants to be truly dedicated in the whole vtubing business, they'll need to earn a spot in Holo. Niji even with their whole vtuber academy bullshit doesn't cut out in the long run. They'll only waste money for it.

I don't know the specifics, but if comedian schools can exist in Japan I can't see a vtuber one doing much worse.
Teach people how to network and advertize, teach them how to not dox themselves, teach them how to use software, etc.
Sure it's less than useful if they don't make it big, but tell that to everyone going to acting college in the US.
As for compensation, if they get a single wave that gets big from every graduating class that'll probably make them more than it cost to pay the instructors, and they aren't providing equipment or anything to my knowledge.

Ichikara goes all the way to give as many people the chance to be vtubers, they dont care so much about brand but more expading the world of vtubers and entertaiment for all kinds, incluiding being more lax with the content, debuting much more people and having much more lax moderation (R-18 games, mods, etc, what the vtubers are allowed to do)

Hololive is all about "muh brand and image instead" their fanabase treats them as a religion who can do not wrong and will go all the way to keep the "fantasy" image, which results in much more moderated content, gotta say, hololive wasnt like this like 2 years ago, their content was much more different.
